Mode S....recommended suppliers?

My old transponder has finally given up so I have decided to cut my losses and fit a Garmin GTX330. I have been quoted nearly £1000 for installation by one shop, albeit of good reputation. For those of you who've had one installed recently, how much was your fitting?

Any recommendations / horror stories for suppliers most welcome via PM.

Try Aerocoms at Coventry and Leicester Airports.

A GTX330 is about £2000 plus VAT - that's the list price; the avionics shop gets a trade margin off that.

The installation should range from about £300 (replacing another very similar transponder, no antenna work) to £1000 (a fresh transponder fitting including a new antenna).

The 330 is a nice unit but make sure it is bright enough in sunlight - some of them aren't and the time to find out is earlier rather than later. There is an adjustment you can do to all the parameters (probably not user authorised but I have the manual if you need it) but sometimes it isn't enough.

The TRIG fits the same tray as the KT76A no installation cost, just a mod and a ground check.
