Stik,
L4 grounspeed was down to 45 mph at one point yesterday!
Ask Maurice ,that P-51 will take some beating.
I was using the chainsaw yesterday but caught a glimpse of you.

Lister - it's fun but it's not a Pitts!
Cruises at 170mph 25square, which I think is quite impressive for a 200hp biplane!
Lakenheath clocked me at 170kts eastbound above the A14.
My strip is almost nearly useable, so hopefully see you over here in the next week or so.
Stik
I stipulated piston single 'cos I could bore you with Mach 0.9 in a twin jet last week!!

A while back I had a GPS groundspeed of 176kts whilst cruising at FL100 in a crappy old PA38! IAS was just over 80kts. I kept the F215 for that day - quite something. Like stiknruda I now get a 440kt groundspeed at work even with no wind but thats cheating!
I think the biggest gs relative to cruise speed is better than outright gs, it sort of feels more exciting!

Many years ago in a humble 172 clocked 186 from Birmingham DME. Controller asked me to confirm type! BTW I was at FL55 only and had a most interesting arrival at Shobden that morning. Never want to do it again though.

205kts in my 172 a few weeks ago coming back from Guernsey and 280kts a couple of years ago in the baron. Slowest was the same Cessna flight out to Guernsey when I had a 46kt ground speed at one point!

Fully Flapped
Do you often see these images of Stik when you're using a chainsaw ?
Almost every time!
In fact I heard him above the noise of the saw,so looked up ,and there he was.
Stik,
I did think to pop in today but Priory is still quite wet and I reckoned I need to check with you before I drop in.
By the way GS today was down to 40 mph upwind.

It cracks me up hearing of SEP's such as 172's PA28's etc doing a +180 GS.

My point? MMM do I sence some attitude?
My point was when I look at a small SEP aircraft, it just amazes me that it can do 200kts GS.
Nothing more or less, and I wasn't implying that I didnt believe the figures quoted above.

Sorry chaps - this was just meant to be a light hearted "see how fast I went in my aeroplane (SEP) S&L....
didn't realise it would become so "competitive/combatitive".

I was easily able to go backwards in my Nipper today! Does that count? It's really cool to look out and see the ground slowly retreating out from under the front of the wing!
Once you know that it stalls around 30 knots, power-on, its not hard to see how. I also had 107Kts on the clock coming home (she cruises at 65).
