Aircraft Hire in Eastern Europe

I remember seeing a couple of posts on this subject a few months ago, but cannot seem to find them anymore, either searching here or via Google.

So apart from a recent post of mine inquiring about Bulgaria, and a more recent one regarding Poland, I found nothing else. Neither of the aforementioned posts has received any specific replies.

Therefore my question is, where in Central and Eastern Europe I might hire SEP aircraft for hour building and touring purposes, much preferrably at an advantageous hourly rate compared to Western European countries (say <€80/hr). It would also be desirable to find a place where I could take the aircraft away for a few days at a time, as that would allow me to do longer trips.

I do believe a number of you chaps are fairly familiar with the Eastern European GA scene and I do hope someone will be able to offer helpful information / advice on where to look.

Thanks in advance.

[ Note: I use Eastern Europe in a very loose sense. Include everything which used to be on the eastern side of the Iron Curtain, plus the non-aligned countries in the Balkans and the Adriatic. And we might even toss in the northern parts of Greece and Turkey while we're at it ]

LZVB Vajnory pronaounced vinory, is just 1.9km north of Bratislava Stefanik. Suggest you look for rmac as he has a cessna twin there. They have Zlin's there at a really cheap rate. I am over there next week so hope to get some in myself. I will post any details i find then.

Piston,

thanks for your reply. I do remember earlier posts about this place, although I was unable to find them again on a search. From the one other recent thread you posted, it looks like it might not be there for much longer.

I would very much appreciate it if you could report back with any details about this or any other similar place when you get there next week. In the meanwhile, I will try to have a Czech friend of mine ring the numbers posted at http://www.aeroklub-ba.sk/data_eng/eng_002_c.html

Certainly £25/hr is almost a dream come true.

Thanks again.

I am not sure whats going on there with regards the developement. It is reported that the site has been purchased, but nothing as yet is happening. My brother has a business in Bratislava and we know it is a minefield of a place when trying to get things off the ground! Excuse the pun! So maybe one day it will just disappear. But for the moment the International airport is very cheap, hence rmac parking his plane there. I will post news next week on my return!

For instance for Bratislava Vajnory AeroClub http://www.aeroklub-ba.sk/ the e-mail is given as "aeroklub-ba zavináč aeroklub-ba.sk" meaning [email protected]

Hi there,

I did a bit of research while driving through Slovakia last month.

Briefly, of the places I had information about, which I gathered from here and from some Slovak airline pilots a friend of mine happened to meet at the hotel next to the airport in Budapest, I ended up deciding in favour of Seagle Air. I have met the owner and he seemed a pleasant sort of chap---he has DA40 TDIs for €100/hr wet. I haven't flown them yet (no time when I was there and unflyable wheather anyway), but might be going over in a week or two---will let you know what.

Any other information you might have re. cheap aircraft hire in any part of Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East still welcome, btw

Don't know about your definition of 'cheap' (doesn't really go together with 'aviation' anyway), but there are a few other options out there. In Austria, for example, although you have to be a club member for insurance purposes, renting can be quite cheap. Some clubs there have annual dues of only around EUR 200-300, so if you plan on touring East/Central Europe, this could be an option if spread over enough hours.

In Spain, there are also several places to rent from, typically in the EUR 130-150 category for the standard spamcans. There are a number of threads on this, just do a search. From there it's a short hop to North Africa (e.g. LEMG-GMTT is about 50 mins).

The real question when renting somewhere far afield is always - how many hours do you plan on flying there? Every place will require a checkout and if you only want to do a local bimble then doing this with a safety pilot is the more cost-effective way of flying.

Rule 5 ?

I'm guessing, from the picture on the bottom left (http://www.aeroklub.cz/index.php?idpg=43〈=en) that they don't have rule 5 in the Czech republic ?

Pompey,
dunno, what rule 5 is, but I can tell an Air Rally / Precision Flying competition picture. Obviously, them Czechs even have results. Scary.
