Medical
Hi,
I'm looking to get my medical done for my PPL. However, I was surprized that from the CAA website
http://www.caa.co.uk/application.asp...plicationid=21
There are not that many approved doctors in and around Camberley/Farnborough. I thought I came across a website a year or so ago that listed many AME in my local area, (or am I mistaken).
Is the CAA list a complete list of AME's?
Thanks

The CAA list is authoratative I think.
You will only need one!! There is not usually a big price differential between different docs in one area, and when compared with the other costs, it becomes negligable.

I've just had a quick look and there's one in Camberley and one in Farnborough - look under the counties; that might work better than post code.
As far as I know, it is a definitive list.
Cheers

The final part of the medical examination is to hand you a piece of paper with an extortionately large number on it. If you survive this without having a siezure, chances are you are healthy enough to withstand similar episodes throughout your flying career...

Its an Aviation medical, lets charge an extra £60...
Its an Aviation GPS, lets charge an extra £200, oh, better yet we'll double the price...
Its an Aviation stopwatch, lets charge an extra £10...
Its an Aviation screw/bolt/nut/rivet lets charge £1.99 EACH....
There are enough people out there trying to rip us off and curtail our activities with stupid rules, without us actually helping them with our own attitudes. Personally I try to get "Value for money" in everything I purchase, including flying, and that does not necessarily mean the cheapest either.

I equally disagree with Gertrude (who I am sure was being ironic) and only today have parted with £120.00 to visit the Belgrano for my annual cardiac check up. That is in addition to my "normal" annual medical, which I have at a specialist AME's practice nr Gatwick for £145.00.
This aviating ain't cheap ... but that doesn't mean I'm happy about it.
