Garmin Pilot III

Can Garmin III's be updated over the Internet? If so, what's the cost?

Cheers, EDDS

Yep, both the firmware and the databases. You have to download them first then apply to the unit via your serial port.
Firmware is free but the databases you pay for. From the Garmin website:
http://shop.garmin.com/aviation/data...I+Pilot+System
Pricing
Single Update: $35.00
Annual Service: $295 for 13 consecutive cycles, one update per cycle

Note that there are two different hardware updates depending on the original software. Check the version at the bottom right of the boot up display.

Also note that the GPSIII was different to the GPSIII Pilot.
