Sightseeing Flying in Malaga

Hi guys,

I got my PPL and am based in UK, i want to do some flying down Malaga a/p, was wondering do i need to purchase maps and all relevant things for just say one or tww hrs of flying down the coast and maybe a little landaway at Jerez?

Anyone else also flew down there, hows the general air traffic like? (and im talking around the area, NOT the 757's on approach!) And cost of hiring a C152/hr?

Thanks guys

Hi link4,

you posted almost one moth ago, but as nobady has provided you with an answer I'll try it now.

Malaga Int airport is not very GA friendly. It has some restrictions to GA operations. For private flying the choice is Leoni Benabu airdrome located some miles east of Malaga Int. There is based 'Aeroclub de Malaga' where you can rent an Archer for 200 €/h with safety pilot.
I have to say this rate is well over the standard for Spain.

More info about this club in the following link:
http://www.aeroclubmalaga.com

I'm not sure if there are other options to rent apart from the club.

Concerning the air traffic, no problem at all. It can be heavy only during summer/holidays in the proximity of Malaga Int.

No problem neither with the trip to Jerez, as it is very GA friendly since there operates 'BAE Systems Flight Training School'

About charts, you can buy one of the Spain ICAO chart 1:500000 edited by 'AENA' or one from Jeppsen. The first can be bought, for instance, in the next link: http://www.buckerbook.com/info.asp?ref=AENA

And for aeronautical info, you can browse Spain AIP in the following link: http://www.aena.es/csee/Satellite?ci...O=2&lang=EN_GB
You have to register but it's free and you only have to provide an email.

Hope this helps...

PM me for more info, I am partly based down here. The info for Aerodynamics is correct. There was also another thread a little while ago with an excellent summary of the flying in and around Malaga (can't find it at the moment, but it was about Jan/Feb here in 'Private Flying')

172Driver,

I think you might mean my post
http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=210835

I did pm Link4 with this to try and avoid thread clutter. I think this is a weakness of the new PPRune format (Moderator BRL if you are listening) - a search only checks the last month by default. You must do an advanced search to go back further. I think this should be the opposite situation (ie the full PPRune archives are checked by default). This way the forums will contain fewer duplicate threads and more better developed ones.

It is indeed! Good to know about this 'search' setting. Agree with you, the reverse (i.e. search ALL) would be better as default.

Anyway, cheers again for an excellent post
