Unlicensed pilot in alcohol-fuelled joyride
January 10 2006 at 11:50AM
New York - An unlicensed pilot who took a plane and two teenage friends for an alcohol-fuelled, late-night joyride pleaded guilty to several charges including reckless endangerment.
Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Philippe Patricio, 21, also admitted on Monday that he wasn't authorised to take the plane, he resisted arrest and he was drunk.
On June 22, Patricio took the single-engine Cessna from Danbury Municipal Airport in Connecticut and three hours later landed at Westchester County Airport in New York, where he was met by police.
Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano said that when the cockpit doors were opened, "a significant number of beer cans fell to the tarmac".

He's lucky.
The plane I had my first flying lessons on was "borrowed" on a dark and stormy night by a pre-solo student for a booze fueled joyride with a buddy he had been partying with. The next day it was found looking like a squashed beercan not far from the a/p. Identification of the remains began with the instructor phoning up his students to see who failed to answer the phone. You could put your arms around the remains of the cabin.

Indeed lucky - While I was in flight school, I recall a hangar-mate's Skymaster getting fired up and taxied about during a windy and snowy New Years Eve by some intoxicated teens. Their intentions were to takeoff and land.
They found themselves in pretty deep during taxi and aborted, but not before striking the tail of a visiting Sabreliner parked on the ramp. I knew of one of the accused - he was in flight school and hadn't even soloed as yet. Until this incident, I thought of the fellow as pretty smart.
