Licence Revalidation ?

Ok so i looked at the Caa website and downloaded a copy of Lasors, but still cant see an answer.
So I'll post here and delete when I get a response.

Want to get back in the air, but what do I need to do. I have a UK Caa PPL. My last LPC was on 27-05-2001 and my last logged flight was on 05-07-2002. I take it my medical has expired, class 1 renewal taken on 07-06-2002 or does this count as a class 2 and valid for 60 or 24 months ( my dob is dec 1974, so is it valid until my dec 06 ? when i'm 32).
So what do I need to do and in any particular order ?

Yes I gave up on a airline career, but want to get back in the air, buy a share or rent something affordable (won't use the word cheap) near me, Popham ? (pointers in this direction also welcome, my flying mainly AA5. PA28 or DA20, never tried a tailwheeler) while I build my own pfa machine over 3 years or so.

Any advise appreciated.

Re: Licence Revalidation ?

This should be a very straightforward process for you, you'll be glad to know. You will need to do the following:

1. Check with your AME, but as I understand it your expired Class1 medical will give you Class 2 privileges until your 32nd birthday as it was issued when you were less than 30 years old.

2. Take whatever refresher flying training you think you will need, then take a SEP Class Rating renewal Licensing Skill Test with a PPL Examiner. If your SEP Class Rating expired less than 5 years ago, the Examiner will be able to sign you up there and then. Otherwise it will mean sending your paperwork off to the CAA together with a rating variation fee.... There is no CAA fee to pay, however, if the Examiner is able to sign your paperwork for a 'less than 5 years expired' renewal LST.

It is a mistaken belief of many airline pilots that they somehow still have SEP Class Ratings because they have been flying commercially. This is not true unless they've also been maintaining their SEP Class Ratings as required under JAR-FCL.

Meon,

If you look under the Type Ratings section in LASORS and find the renew proc for SEP then that should also help answer your question.

HWD - he states that he holds a UK CAA PPL. This would be a 'lifetime' PPL, so will not need to be re-issued. It is only the SEP Rating renewal LST (not, as you stated, revalidation) which he needs.
