Thumbs up

criticise the post not the person
I think that this is probably the best piece of advice that I have ever seen on Pprune.

Like, for example, local newspapers which get all worked up if little old ladies get parking tickets when parking on double yellow lines when going to church!! (Quite why they think "going to church" should exempt them from the law is utterly beyond me.)
Presumably examples of those esteemed local newspapers would be the Okmulgee Daily Times (Oklahoma), the Kileen Daily Herald (Texas), the Lincoln Journal Star (Nebraska), etc. etc. ... do you really not understand why they think the church destination is important?

Pierre,

The PPR requirement at this airfield is clearly published as by telephone call to XXXX
Out of curiosity is the "by phone" but explicitly stated in the AIP entry for your field? Is it also in the flight guides? People use different methods for their briefing, and perhaps the "by phone" bit isn't listed in them all? Just a thought.

Personally, I think people should always call, unless they KNOW that an airfield is happy to accept you on r/t. But that's me, and another debate that we already had

Please don't start me on guides...

So many problems, small and not so small, are caused by the diversity of guides (missed frequency changes, requests to fly withdrawn procedures, reworded and thus misinterpretted warnings etc etc). The AIP is updated as a matter of course whenever anything changes, so is right 99.9% of the time (OK no one's perfect).... We receive regular requests from companies such as Pooleys, Jeppeson et al to update/confirm our details, but they seem to rely on either being told, on requesting updates about once every two years), or extracting the information for themselves (at about the same interval, it seems)

Sorry I don't know if the precise "PPR by Phone" requirement is repeated accurately in all the guides... and not sure we have go around contacting everyone and anyone who decides to have a go at undercutting the CAA, when the information is published promptly through routine channels?

...and of course there's always the pilot who is still using the well thumbed guide that he bought at a booksale in W.H. Ottakers in 1999... thinking (s)he is well informed. Well things can't have changed that much can they?...

Ahhh we're back to flight planning again. I like your suggestion/hint... always phone first (or words to that effect), it's simple and virtually fool-proof!

I have finally managed to catch up - I must have had a bad hair day!? I am now in Australia for a month and more relaxed ...

As others have said, with more info provided it seems an interesting and salutory story - I just didn't get that from the initial post so off I ranted...!
