Please don't start me on guides...
So many problems, small and not so small, are caused by the diversity of guides (missed frequency changes, requests to fly withdrawn procedures, reworded and thus misinterpretted warnings etc etc). The AIP is updated as a matter of course whenever anything changes, so is right 99.9% of the time (OK no one's perfect).... We receive regular requests from companies such as Pooleys, Jeppeson et al to update/confirm our details, but they seem to rely on either being told, on requesting updates about once every two years), or extracting the information for themselves (at about the same interval, it seems)
Sorry I don't know if the precise "PPR by Phone" requirement is repeated accurately in all the guides... and not sure we have go around contacting everyone and anyone who decides to have a go at undercutting the CAA, when the information is published promptly through routine channels?
...and of course there's always the pilot who is still using the well thumbed guide that he bought at a booksale in W.H. Ottakers in 1999... thinking (s)he is well informed. Well things can't have changed that much can they?...
Ahhh we're back to flight planning again. I like your suggestion/hint... always phone first (or words to that effect), it's simple and virtually fool-proof!
