UK PPL Conversion Validation

To obtain a UK PPL be it even a short term one even, from a ICAO (Canadian) or a FAA ATPL, is it just a rubber stamp and the fee's?

Nope,
There will be two written tests: One on air knowledge and another to ascertain if you belong in the Human Race. Next, a medical exam and then a flight check. Also, you are required to have a radio license and the American FCC license is not accepted. This would involve another written test and oral exam. The whole procedure is generally thought be a giant pain in the ass, if the only reason is to fly a light aircraft.

Many places will rent you an aircraft on the basis of your FAA Private. In the 90s I would visit the UK and rent a Warrior using my FAA ATP certificate and medical.

For a short visit or even a long one, any valid ICAO licence may be used to fly a G Reg aircraft with PPL privileges without any formality or fees. UK ANO Article 21.

... so long as that licence clearly has SEP / SEL privileges, and you don't mind being limited to day VMC.

Really? I used to pick up an IFR and fly all over the place! Night too! Hmmm guess I should have just flown on nice days!

A common misconception as you should know by now Genghis

There is no "day" limitation, and if you hold an IR, there is no VMC restriction, other than in CAS. So in G airspace you can fly IFR in IMC if you wish....

Also my FAA ticket does not limit me to "Piston" aircraft either though that may be another matter in UK airspace....
