JAA or FAA?

Hi, I am hoping to obtain a PPL with night qualification in the US later this year, however, I am not sure whether I should go for a JAA or FAA PPL. I am from Hong Kong and will probably fly in HK more than any other places. After PPL I am hoping to save some money and get CPL etc. Then which CPL shall I go for?
Some people obtained a FAA PPL, then JAA CPL, or vice versa. Which is better>?

Just found out that Hong Kong is not a contracting state of ICAO. Then what shall I do?

You might get a better answer on the Fragrant Harbour wannabees forum. As for JAA/FAA, combination of where you fly and what you want to do with your flying when you get your ticket, plenty of discussion on here in the past.
