Trying to get a decent forecast for that far ahead is very difficult - you can try http://uk.weather.com/
which gives a 10 day forecast, but more than 3 days ahead I would very much take with a pinch of salt (even the forecast for today can be in error as you will find if you stay flying for long)

NN8 5AF postcode

although I live about 7 miles away from the airfield could this make a significance, I fly from Sywell by the way. Also what sort of weather do you think someone would be allowed to solo in?

Just curious...

Guidelines - enough vis. to see the airfield well on d/wind (say 5 km at Sywell?), cloudbase at least 1,500 QNH at Sywell and as long as wind is within x-wind limits then things should be cool

Cheers,

Jack.

I am not local to Sywell so not that familiar with local variations but from what I do know of the area I suspect there will not be a lot of variation over 7 miles (I live north of the Downs and a mile can make a lot of difference).
As far as rain goes, light rain with decent viz will possibly be OK but cloud and low viz often associated with anything more will probably rule things out. Good luck and enjoy it when it comes.

The fact that you have asked the question will ensure that the weather will now be c**p.

Something you will have to get used to, these are known as TAFs (Terminal Airfield Forecast), you also get METARs in a similar format (Actual wx)
The East Midlands reads:
East Midlands (EGNX in ICAO format)
Date(061009) 6th, time of forecast 1009Z
period of forecast(061812) from 6th at 1800Z to 7th at 1200Z
Wind(23015kt) 230/15kts
Visability (9999) 10km or more
Cloud (SCT030) scattered at 3,000'
Temporary bretween 1800 and 1200 (TEMPO 1812) wind 240/20 gusting 32 viz 6000 meters in showers of rain and hail cloud broken cumulo nimbus at 2000'

try the BHX one yourself and see how you get on

Heyup mate, this is why I recommend you get your head into 'Met' next - you'll then be able to go onto the Met Office site and brief yourself

Cheers,

Jack.

Go to:

www.metoffice.gov.uk

Go to the aviation section, register yourself for free...go to the TAF and MEATR section...find the TAF and METAR decode...press print and practise and learn!
