Arrow Glider crash UK

Hi, Just thought that I would tell you all about a glider crash that happened at my club. A glider instructor and student were flying below the hill (Ridge running) when the right wing dug into the hill. This snapped off and the glider fliped over. It hit the ground on the canopy and slid downhill for about 500 metres. The nose completely broke off and so did two wings and the tail. Both pilots were OK!! If anyone has got any other interesting stories post them here!

Well, when read it, I said "Jesus...". So, sort of Christmassy there.

Very lucky.

Capt Dan, was this several weeks ago at a club in the county mentioned in your profile, or a new accident?

Captain Dan,

I had a look at your profile and your posts. I gather you're an A-level student, and pretty new to PPRuNe - 5 posts, all since Christmas Eve. What's wrong with that, you might ask. Absolutely nothing, except that I get the feeling it might help if you just spent a bit more time reading the Private Flying forum before posting, then comment on other threads. Then, and only then, start a thread yourself, and then only if you have something to say/ask.

I am not a moderator, and this is not a rule by any means. It's merely a friendly suggestion. And I think you'd get a better response than you have been getting if you did that.

People, I don't think this guy has any ulterior motive, or is looking for "sensationalist claptrap" etc. I think he's just...young. And that is a state that is absolutely guaranteed to change.

Agreed. And obviously there is nothing really wrong with being young and callow (we all were, once); though of course I take Whirly's point.

I was reading back to my first post the other day, and I was so ashamed of myself! It was the typical "my eye's are screwed - can I get a class 1". You see them every day, but the obvious benefit is that they are personal and aimed at you. You will pick up pprune etiquette pretty quick if you read on.

maz,

I remember my first post. I got instantly flamed, and ran away and didn't post again for several months.

You pretty much get flamed for posting anything on Pprune. I have found that in Private Flying there are a lot of people who like to think that their opinion is the correct one. Often comes across as very hostile. TBH a lot of threads in PF are pointless as the replies are just full of opinions from opinionated people!
I guess thats men for you...always right (or so they like to think.... )

Runs away to put on asbestos growbag.....

No need to runaway. To certain extent I agree! But nothing wrong with opinions, nor opinionated people. Its all part of the rich tapestry.

FWIW, online personalities are often quite different to the flesh - for obvious reasons.

Pinga,

Sometimes I enjoy it now too! I must have got tougher. But at the time I was very new to the Internet as well as PPRuNe, and I wasn't expecting it and was really shaken up by it. And sometimes now it get to me too; it depends on...all sorts of things.

I left PPRuNe again recently for the same reason, but not for long enough that anyone noticed. Come to think of it, they probably wouldn't have noticed anyway...my delusions of grandeur must be showing.

Seriously, I sometimes long for the "old days" when the Private Flying forum started. We'd fought long and hard to get our own forum, we were a smallish group,. and we were nice to each other. People noticed how friendly this forum was, and we got a lot of refugees from Wannabes and Jet Blast, who liked it better over here. But there aren't many of us originals left now (hi LownSlow, anyone else???) and it's all changed.

I guess I'm just showing my age, always moaning about the Good Old Days.

considering the attack on the poor kid for making a post that did not "conform" there seems to have been a lot of pretty useless and inane replies to it...........
