Walkbury Aviation has been recently taken over by a club from Sywell. Things had gone down hill over the past few years, but the Sywell crew are very experienced and will improve the “club”. I understand there will be more training opportunities like tail wheel ratings available.
I learnt to fly from Sibson around 97, the airfield is challenging but that’s not a bad thing. My instructor said “We will teach you to get in and out of here…. you’ll never have a problem else where” – That applies to the short grass runways, power lines etc.

I would recommend the new operation from what I have heard – I’ll be using them for an additional rating.

I am currently training for my PPL there at the moment. they provide good services, they teach well, and yes, just something to get used to for the hedges at Rwy 25 for the Take off climb, Power lines for Final, once got used to, it does allow you to make a very nice approach. Landing 07 is somewhat more challenging, with the hedge just below you on final final. There is also intensive parashutters just north of the aerodrome, so this is a crowded and challenging it gets so if u can land here, i guess you can land anywhere else. Rwy 33 and 15 also have lighting facilities for night flying. Rwy 04 and 26 maybe available soon too, longer Rwy.

go and visit for a chat, its a friendly enviornment.

i hope they would bring back CPL training for the new management soon.

happy flying.

Sibson

I agree with Bose-X, again. As he said, you already know they are good people, and you may even be at tonight's meet and greet, but for the record here is what I said on an earlier post about Sibson a week or so ago.

I have absolutely no doubt that they will transform Sibson into a GA mecca now that they have control over their own destiny. They are deeply committed to GA and have already amply demonstrated their credentials at Sywell by turning a good flying school with the usual spam-can fleet into a first class establishment with possibly the widest mixture of aircraft available for PPL’s anywhere in the UK, from Vintage trainers through to modern composite aircraft, all achieved against some very considerable odds.

Unusual amongst many in the GA business community they are passionate about providing a quality as well as friendly services . By bringing the benefit of experience in other businesses and a lifetime of personal experience of the level of services usually offered by GA business operation, they have elevated their own standards way in excess of just about every other GA, and many commercial aviation operators.

With a free rein and a committed team, Lucy and Roger will, I know, set new standards of service and professionalism within UKGA.

The meeting went extremely well last night with a very warm welcome and beer extended by the staff. A great opportunity for the members of both clubs to meet and exchange ideas.

The Tiger Moth and one of the Robin HR200 (which I am just back in from delivering back to Sywell in some very murky weather!) for the Sibson members to look around were in the hangar. I think it gave the Sibson members an idea of the much larger and more versatile fleet that they now have access to.

The staff worked very hard to make everyone feel welcome and talking to some of the Sibson members this morning they feel very up beat and are looking forward to the future. Interesting for me as I have been a member of both clubs for a number of years and was once based at Sibson.
