Flexing the PPL in Malta

In a fortnight's time, I've a chance to spend a few days in Malta. Can anyone suggest good places to hire an aircraft from, and/or places to fly to, or over?

It'll be my first ever visit.

And Yes, I have tried a Search, and drawn a blank.

Very many thanks in advance -

Airy

The island has a very active microlight club who may well take you up for some RHS flying, probably for just half of 10 litres an hour.

Malta's microlight club

Some good videos on their site too.

My cousin is the CFI at Luqa Airport (falcon alliance flying school) - take a look here:

http://www.efa.com.mt/epa.html

You can contact them through here, or if you wish, send me your email address and I will get them to contact you. They are well equiped and quite cheap - a greta place to fly. I am getting a few hours done there myself in March.

Cheers

Thanks BS, but I was thinking more in terms of hiring something PA28/C150 ish.
mazzy1026 : Thanks too. I'll look into that one.

Just can't resist the idea of an aerial tour of some of those amazing historic sites. Not to mention having somewhere that exotic in my log book (It's all relative, exotic dwellers).

See also the Malta Flying School, which rents a C-152 for LM45 (= approx. £72) per hour, wet.

I hired a C172 (9H-ACL) a few years ago. Cost Lira 50 / hobs hour, inc fuel and landing. I needed to do a 30 min check ride first, but that was fun anyway!

Contact Paradise Island Air Services Ltd / Anthony Greech, +356 552 385, or [email protected]

The c-152 of malta flying school does not exist yet - the company just was recently formed.

The 172 costs now 52 Malta pounds an hour with a check ride before too, and hour 2 seater Tecnams with instructor are 63.50 malta pounds an hour and then 43,50 an hour solo.

Hope this has helped.

Hi Airist,

It may be a bit late for you, but I asked about Malta a couple of years ago HERE

I really enjoyed the flying I did there through Antony Greech, and would also recommend his services as mentioned above. He kindly picked me up from my hotel as I didnt have transport, and I flew his C172 with a friend of his as a safety pilot. Considering the international nature of the Airport, ATC were very good, didnt hold much at all as they let us use the cross-runway on departure. Seem to remember that there was a 1500ft hieght limit, but then I wanted to look at the islands anyway!!

The only problem I had was Haze......I had to cancel a couple of flights because of reduced horizontal visability, even though looking staight up was perfect blue sky and you could get a tan.... apparently some wierd local effect peculiar to the islands.

Anyway, have fun in Malta - I certainly did!!

Regards, SD..
