Help in finding an old book.
The book was called (I think) 'Ready for takeoff' and was one mans account of gaining his PPL.
I remember picking this book up in the library purely by chance (it was in the wrong section) and sitting down and reading it. Soon after the uni assignment was forgotten and I took the book home to read. I finished it the following day and from that moment I decided that flying was for me and I would do my PPL.
I have looked everywhere for this book but to no avail. Surely another pruner has knowledge of it?
I can't remember the authors name but he was a journalist. His instructor I believe was former RAF wing commander Jock Dalgleish. I can't remember where he flew from either but I'm pretty sure he did fly over the Humber and out by the Wash.

If you go to http://www.abebooks.com/ and do a search, as I just did, you should find 185 books listed by the gentleman (in either English or Norwegian), including 6 copies of that book starting at about US$10 + p&p from the US.
Just don't ask me one on sport, can't do those.

The Leif Hamre books are all novels based around the Norwegian Air Force in the 60's - nothing to do with learning to fly I'm afraid.
Read them all as a kid however (we had a great school library) - I thought they were good.

Try
www.bookfinder.com
There is also a very good specialist aviation book seller in the UK called Soldridge Books. I chucked out their last catalogue, otherwise I would have all the details but I'm surer a quick search will turn them up
Just found it

This post reminded me of an old library book I found about 20 years ago, sounds very similar:
"I learned to fly" by Pearson Phillips. He was flying an AA5 from Elstree. Large format book with lots of photos and diagrams. It's still listed by Amazon.
