I haven't rented from them, but I did visit the club last month when I flew a Cessna down there from London.

You're probably already familiar with their web site.

The airfield at Mutxamel/Muchamiel is quite small and dusty but the club facilities are good, with a cafe on site. They seemed a friendly bunch, but English is not very widely spoken at the field so if you don't already speak some Spanish then an RT crib-sheet would be handy. You'll find examples on that web site under "En Linea"/"Intersante!"

There is an English member of the club who is very helpful and whose number I have if you PM me.

If it's of any interest to you there is an English microlight training school who operate from the airfield too - details here.

I don't know if it helps (probably depends on whether you are north or south of Alicante) but Valencia have a lot of GA planes, and it looks as if there are a couple of clubs there.

There's quite a few of us (17 ) flying down to Spain in August. Some people are only going as far as the border, some going down and then up the eastern side of France and some going down to Alicante and maybe Gib. Our plan is a lazy journey down the west coast of France, flying 3-5 hours a day, probably just in the mornings.

The direct link to the RT is Spanish RT translator and and this one Very useful

bar shaker,

Coming back via Blois at the end of the first week in September I trust?

Sounds like a good trip - I'll PM you for further details. With full flaps deployed I can match a flexwing for speed, but I'm not sure I could keep up with the required litres per hour beer consumption!

BTW, be prepared to file a flight plan every time you move in Spain!

There is also a flying training organisation on the main Alicante Airport. Goes by the name of AirEvans. Basically a charter company but will hire C 172's at around 100 euros per hour. Interesting taking off in 4 minute slots with the big guys!. When you land you get a follow me van to make sure you vacate the runway pronto. Went there last year whilst still doing my PPL . and had an hour with an instructor for 115 euros. The guys name was Antonio and he spoke fair english. The info desk at Alicante would certainly know how to track him down. The name of the organisation comes from his name coupled with his girlfriend Eve. Nothing to do with the valleys!

It will be great if we can meet up. I hope to have a new machine by then, but can pull on 65+ in the current one so will try and keep up. We have a Eurostar in the group so you and him could go and play will we plod along

Unfortunately I will have to be back before Blois.

Flight plans are needed for crossing the airspace of the 5 main airports, Valencia, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga and somewhere else that I've forgotten about. Only Valencia will be in our way unless we go to Gibralta for their 300 year party.

You coped admirably at Abbeville last year so I'm sure you would cope with the social side of things

See you at IoM in May.
