Flying in Cork
Anybody know of any spamcan providers at Cork airport other than South Aer (or any opinions on South Aer themselves)? I'm there for a week over Xmas and might need to ditch the in-laws for a couple of hours.
Due to lack of my own transport, I won't be able to travel too far from Cork City/Blarney this time. All info gratefully received.

South Aer are the only school/club that I'm aware of at Cork. Certainly they are the biggest.
They operate Cessna's I believe.
They have a good reputation, although the only person I know who went there, wasn't too impressed.
There is another airfield in Rathcoole 13nm west of Mallow. It's operated by Rathfoole Flying Group Ltd (as I see from my Poolies guide!) Maybe they can help you with something more to your liking? There ph number is +353-22-22344

From my own limited experience the guys at Southaer were great - I did some initial PPL training there until work commitments and lack of funds kept me grounded. I think it's just the one Cessna they have, the rest (2 or 3) are Cherokees (I could be wrong). That's about it for fixed-wing in Cork. There is a new heli-op company there now though. Further afield is indeed Rathcoole but that's mostly private flying - doubt if you'll get anything there for hire. Another option would be to get yourself up to Limerick to the flying club at Coonagh - no personal experience but I have heard good things. With all that being true, your best bet remains Southaer - if you can organise it, the local flying is great.

Only managed an hour with Southaer this time, but I'd definitely recommend them. Slightly battered planes but nice guys, 30 yard taxi to the main runway, no other GA traffic (but obliging ATC) and the Cork coast from the air is pretty spectacular.
