Did it about 10 years back , the compitition is all about getting to Malta on time and a spot landing, there is no flying once you are on Malta.
However the hospitality from the rally organisers is top notch and we enjoyed the stay in Malta.

Getting across Italy is a bit of a pain with high landing fees poor service and lots of paperwork at the airfields in the south.

My advice is if you can avoid Italy do so , take a good look at your aircraft endurance and see if you can make malta from the south of Corsica.
