Question Don't have permission to view 'airline specific private forums'

Long time lurker, relatively new poster though so this may be a bit of a noob question...

Whenever I try to access the EasyJet airline specific private forum, I see the following message:

"you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to access a private forum, administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."
Is it just a matter of posting more & building up a 'reputable profile' before access is granted, or are there any specific requirements?

Thanks in advance!

The clue is in the description - they are private forums.

Did you not notice the description of the EasyJet forum: "To apply for access to this private forum, please CLICK HERE, enclosing your name, staff number and base."

If you don't work for EasyJet, you don't get access. No amount of posts elsewhere will get you in.

Bit snarky! Do you welcome all new posters like that?

Can't see the description for any of those forums, when I click any of them (shown on the left on desktop), it just redirects you to a page with the message 'passportstamp, you do not have permission to access this page', hence my reason for asking. Maybe you can see it because you're in the forum?

What a dopey response. The home page of PPRuNe says just what you've been told, for all to see.

"You must be registered and logged in to be able to see the list of private forums" there at the top.

Then against EasyJet:

"To apply for access to the private forum, please click here, enclosing your name, staff number and base"

Maybe you owe the mods an apology?

I just keep them closed so as to not see them. Simples.

Haha, love these warm welcomes! This is such a non-issue but since everyone is being pretty cheeky, I had to get to the bottom of this for the sake of my pride. More importantly, hopefully this helps any other new users with the same problem.

After trawling through other threads, I've discovered the forum defaults to a 'trending topics' view for all new users, with whoever made that decision probably not realising that it hides all forum descriptions to 'streamline' the UI - you have to mouse over an inconspicuous little 'i' icon to see them. This means my forum homepage, as a new user, looks completely different to yours (sincere thanks for posting a comparison screenshot).

Here's what the Easyjet forum looks like for me (on the left), and what happens when I try and access it (as described in my opening post).

I can NOW see the forum descriptions by default - but only because I've turned off the automatically applied option of 'trending topics' that was buried deep in my user settings! Hopefully a forum admin will review what onboarding is like as a 'new user' and understand the problems I was having... as can the rest of you Happy to be here!

To be fair all round, we mods all loathe the trendy "trending" front page and never, ever use it, so won't have seen the problem that passportstamp has now raised, so thanks for that. Also, as a new user, I don't think that the title of the first sticky thread would have meant much to passportstamp either - if that's all he / she has known, why would he look to revert back to something never seen previously?

Glad it's all been sorted, and hopefully another issue with the "trending" front page brought to IB's attention to deal with.
