Good information WHBM and understandable - given the problem of slot timing and the need to keep on time. For s/h, the earlier in the day the bigger the risk. I know corporates in other fields will stick to their planned diary and never hire in short term labour/vehicles - even for an afternoon. Their diary and schedule is far more important than the client's.

Sister, having successfully been accompanied by her luggage from Melbourne to Heathrow, had hers, but not her husband's, mislaid on a flight from Leeds Bradford to Belfast.

Some years ago, was on a Bcal charter ex LGW to Turin for a university ski trip. None of the registered skis (about 30 sets) arrived in Turin, but were found in Syria. Apparently, they were then flown back to LGW, then to Turin via Malpensa, and re-united with their owners the night before departure back to UK.
The best lost luggage communication was with BA. We transited through LHR 3 days after the 777 crash. Inbound on one of the few SH flights of the day, followed by 5 hours waiting for the LH to Narita. Given the almost deserted state of terminal 5, one would think that 5 hours was more than enough time to transfer baggage. But no - at Narita walking off the airbridge saw my name on a notice board with an envelope attached. Inside was a profuse apology for non-arrival of skis and a pre-paid credit card loaded with £75 which nicely coverd the two days of ski hire until the lost ones arrived. Complete contrast with the atrocious handling of the failure of skis to arrive at NCL on the return.
