Airbanda: Thanks, that's quite plausible. I was due to take the subsequent flight from EGLC to LSZH which I have been doing dozens of times a year for ages and have not once had a cancellation so I found it interesting.

Suspect something ground based. The LOT flight from Vilnius in Lithuania, due LCY at the same time, got as far as overhead the Netherlands, then turned back to base at Warsaw.
