Wekcome to the Cabin cashash. Good question and I've never been on WestJet but I reckon someone has and, hopefully, will be along soon.

Whoa, not quite! Maybe on a few of the older tail numbers. I just did a very nice leg to a certain Pacific island and it was quite the opposite of your blocked middle seat experience (apart from having my "mom" keeping a sharp eye on everyone's booze intake. She was running the forward section.) There was a separate cabin with two by two seating with decent leg room, free stuff and a meal. (well sorta kinda...It wasn't much of a culinary achievement to be truthful.) Their (WS') B787s have lie flat pods and if you were to have a look at their website it shows all the improvements they've made to at least make the appearance of an attempt to "keep up with the Joneses". I don't work for the company and if I had a choice I would take the so called competition but let's give some credit where it's due.
The new 787 Business class is very good - If you get a good price then do it - It runs to YYC from LGW - my pals did it.
Their other planes have a premium economy product....

The OP is from London so one has to assume that they are asking the question re long haul. Like many airlines these days the Business Class product on long haul can be entirely different to that experienced on short/medium haul.

Westjet business class - on the 787 only is comparable with Air Canada and the pricing is comparable too. At the moment it operates to Toronto and Calgary but with the start of the summer season the operation is more extensive including Vancouver.
If the fare is better than Air Canada and the timings suit you, try it but there's not much to choose between them - though Westjet crews do seem a bit more enthusiastic compared to their cousins at AC but that's not difficult!

Thanks - have been watching some youtube trip reports and it appears that Westjet and AC have exactly the same seats in Business on their 787's so the only real difference appears to be the meal service. Think I'll give Westjet a go.

Hi , Good old Noel Philips ( Flight Blogger, Miles Points Collector )
did this for an inaugural flight IF. , the start of last summer, London LGW to Calgary,
a few teething issues as an IF.
But there Business Class Product is still a very good deal .. I believe.
checked this month , last month.
Google : " Westjet 787 Business Class INAUGURAL LONG HAUL FLIGHT "
I'm less than 10 posts :-(
He is strangely entertaining , he's been doing this nearly 20 years .
I've been on several hundred business flights back in the day,
also several dozen holiday flights ,
I just like reliving the days when I was flying every week year after year,
and being paid well for it ..
Regards FC.
