To follow up to the OP, I've used the same ESTA to enter the US multiple times without ever updating the flight details or where I'm staying. When mine expired after the 2 year limit, I got a new one and again only ever once put in an address and carrier details.
That being said, make sure on your customs form you clearly indicate where you are staying each time you enter. I've been queried on that numerous times.

Hello!
Due to recent changes to the ESTA application process, at this time the system does not allow an update of your travel itinerary because we get this information from the air or sea carrier prior to your departure from foreign. In addition, the system only allows an update of the email address and address while in the United States, if you had answered “no” to the transit question in the original application. Therefore, at this time it is not mandatory to update your travel itinerary and address in the U.S. for future trips. However, it is still mandatory to provide a U.S destination address upon arrival - which it appears that you have already done. If you have a valid ESTA, you do not need to reapply. For detailed information on VWP/ESTA, you may go to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection site at: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/esta/, or, the U.S. State Department travel site at: Visa Waiver Program

never understood the need for an address on arrival - I'm often asked but never asked to provide any confirmation or booking slip
If you were planning something naughty you'd just tell the taxi driver to take you somewhere else anyway

PS once, many years ago I saw a young Norwegian lady being given the third degree ahead of me in San Franciso - TBH she sounded dodgy as hell but she had her cash, credit cards, return flight AND a hotel reservation and they had to let her in................

Last year we were waiting at holding line at Newark (EWR). There was a family, nay a collection, of strangely garbed people at our chosen immigration officer's desk. We were at the head of his queue.
After a short while of debating with them the price of tea in Pakistan the officer got out of his booth and came back to us at the line. He explained that he would be some fair time with these people and personally invited us to try another line. We did this by moving directly to the one on the left. We appreciated that courtesy and put it down to the fact that I was wearing my Son of the American Revolution lapel rosette.

Cavorting cheetah and others - my experience of the "machines" is quite different! As a returning ESTA traveler on the same passport I was directed to one at LAX (two international transits - rather than entry - in a fortnight.) Went thru' the fingerprint, passport id and photo routine on the machine. It then issued me with a ticket with my picture and details on it and then.........
Directed to wait in a line for 55 minutes to be interviewed, fingerprinted again, iris photo etc.
Asked whether this was "standard" and was told it was. So why the machine routine? It would have been faster to stand in the "first use of passport" line!
