Question Guns, many of them!

From The Straits Times 31/5:-

Gun seized from Libyan man at airport
A LIBYAN man tried to take a sub-machine gun and five magazines with ammunition on board a flight from Singapore to Bangkok.

The man, a bodyguard of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's son, also had a pistol, a revolver and a knife.

Police seized the items during security checks at Changi Airport on Saturday night, before Mr Abousbeiha Hussien Azzaydi and Mr Saadi M. Gaddafi, 28, boarded the plane.

However, two of Mr Gaddafi's other bodyguards were later arrested at Bangkok airport for carrying guns.

A report in Bangkok's The Nation newspaper said that the two men had gone undetected through Singapore airport's strict security checks with the weapons on them.

But a Singapore police spokesman said yesterday that all 15 members of the Libyan group went through security check at the VIP complex, and none of them had weapons when they boarded the plane here at about 11 pm on Saturday.

The Libyans were on their way to Seoul for the World Cup finals.

According to The Nation, the two gun carriers were nabbed in the transit lounge of the Don Muang International Airport on Sunday, after being seen carrying pistols in their waistbands.

They were identified as Gebreil Bores Edoa Abba and Ali Hussein Mohammed.

Bangkok police released them on bail on Tuesday, after two Libyan diplomats flew in from Kuala Lumpur to confirm that they were Mr Gaddafi's bodyguards.

Singapore police spokesman Ang Poon Seng said the police did not know how the duo came to possess the weapons at the Bangkok airport.

He said no weapons were found on either of the men here.

He added: 'The entire delegation was escorted from the VIP area to board their flight and had no opportunity to be in the general transit area.'

Singapore Seizes Gun at Airport

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 1:41 p.m. ET

SINGAPORE (AP) -- Security officials at Singapore's international airport seized a submachine gun and five clips of ammunition from a bodyguard traveling with Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's son, police said Friday.

The seizure took place during routine security checks as Abousbeiha Hussein Azzaydi prepared to board a flight to Bangkok last Saturday, police said in a news release.

A pistol, revolver and a knife also were taken from Azzaydi, a bodyguard for Gadhafi's son, Saadi M. Gadhafi, 28, the news release said.

Gadhafi and his bodyguards were among a party of at least 15 Libyans were on their way to Seoul to watch the World Cup Finals, Singapore's Straits Times newspaper said.

What, are they afraid of terrorists?

The bodyguard of a Gadaffi Jr was featured on the front page of the Cairns Post (Australia) a couple of months back for waving a firearm whilst on board a chartered boat out to the Great Barrier Reef.

Authorites investigated but did not persue charges if I recall.

Must be normal.
