EK Airbus 330/340
I have been flying EK a lot lately primarily from the Sub Continent and onwards. Over the past few months and specifically the last 10 days there have been in ordinate delays including aircraft changes primarily due to technical issues on the aircraft.
In the last week itself on a 330 there was a delay due to cargo door not closing properly and a few days later on a 340 an aircraft change (post boarding) again for cargo door not closing. Some office staff staff also travelling during the week complained of similar delays due to tech issues. Delays range from 2 hours to 5 hours.
I have seen them primarily using these older aircraft which are in a run down condition (interiors) and also do not have either the same level of comfort or the choice of ICE as on the 777 fleet. Also the noisy undercarriage retraction and extension continues to be a very noisy with a noise decibel not heard or felt on the 777.
Is there a chance they are going to replace these aircraft anytime soon? With frequent trips to DXB it is starting to be a pain arriving late and sitting in a cramped uncomfortable seat (Y class seats on the 330 and 340 ante those disgusting thin seats that give one a backache). IS it only EK 330 and 340 fleet that is a bit "run down" or is this a common problem with other airlines?

Seems self explanatory
the 330 range from 10 to 14 years old and the 340 range upto 15 years.
Guess time is telling on these machines and a replacement is due as it is cramping their average age of fleet to 6.1 years. Based on their book orders it seems they do not have any replacement plans in the near future for these aircraft especially if the replacement is the 350

I know what the poster means about 330/340 re seats. However my last flight on a 340 was out of Phuket on the 19/11 in Business, and I have to say the old girl did well, cruising at 42,000ft and getting into DXB 1 hour early with a good tailwind. Also the crew were one of the best I have flown with on EK recently, knowing their passengers names and prefrances (well done Monica ) unlike the EK crew on a 380 I flew down to DXB with some weeks earlier who largly seemed to come from a port city in the NW of England where service is obviously not a strong point.
I think (as others have said) these A/C will have to carry on for a while yet, and yes coming from 777/380 there is a marked diffrance in ICE / comfort, maybe partly down to EK squeezing in that extra seat!. However my big problems with EK recently has been to do with the time it is taking to get through security even when just transfering planes at DXB, as it can be a shambles at certain times of day.
Regards

They have 70 x 350's on order as well as plenty 777's. There is speculation as to wether they will take the 350's or not as the talk is that they are not happy with the final specs. That leaves the 777's.
