BTW - for real-world flight planning purposes, Great Circle distance + 5% is probably closer to the mark

I've used Great Circle Mapper to show the differences between Non-stop and via HKG, SIN and DXB. Interesting that via HKG is only 1NM further. via SIN is 0.9% further and via DXB is 3.1% further. Of course this does not take winds or geo-political situations into account.
