New flyer on Ryanair

I will shortly be taking a hop over the Irish Sea from MAN to DUB. Having never flown RYR before, I don't know the best procedure for check in.

How far in advance does one check in? Is one assigned seats for free? Can you choose your seat and if so does it cost more? Where is the best place to sit assuming I am not desperate to get off the plane as soon as it touches down?

Any other recommendations (apart from not flying RYR obviously!)?

Thanks In Advance.

How far in advance does one check in?

As far as I know you can check in online a few weeks in advanced, and print off your boarding passes.

Is one assigned seats for free?

Ryanair operate a 'free seating' policy, you walk onto the plane and choose your seat like a bus (With the exception of row 1, 2, 16 and 17.

Can you choose your seat and if so does it cost more?

You can reserve any seats on row 1, 2, 16 and 17, think it costs £10 each way?

Where is the best place to sit assuming I am not desperate to get off the plane as soon as it touches down?

You have to pay for the best seats

Where is the best place to sit

1) The humerous answer to this is anywhere except an FR flight, of course.

2) The serious answer is that it doesn't matter as the flights are mercifully short in duration. Getting on later means spotting the seat-back-kicking kid(s) and not sitting in the seat in front of them. Unfortunately this also means that you will have probably to sit next to a shellsuited overweight unwashed arm-rest-hugging lady on one side while having your aisle elbow abraided by the trolley ladies on the other

assuming I am not desperate to get off the plane as soon as it touches down?

Not a good assumption to make as you will find out for yourself ! It's rather like the starting grid of an F-1 race; those at the front get away cleanly, while those behind..............

You can print boarding pass online from 15 days to 4 hours before the flight. Don't forget or you will get stung with a 60 euro reissue fee.

If you want a specific seat on the plane, you pay extra - why waste money on a 30 minute flight?

Seriously - it's only a 30 minutes flight - just relax. Checking in - pack a light bag and sit down while all the numpties scramble to get on the plane. Once they have all gone - stroll onto the aircraft, place your lightly packed bag under the seat in front of you, open a book and chill.
When you land, let all the numpties stand up for 10 minutes again (2 of those before the parking brake has been set as always) - let them pile off while you continue to read. Pick up your small bag and stroll off in your own time - Often got to have a chat with the chaps in the pointy end when doing this too, if you are into that.

Flying with fr for years now and can't complain - as long as you play by MOL sh1tty little rules, they are absolutely fine - but under no circumstances think that it is going be any more tangible than you most likely getting to your destination on time - which btw if you do, stick your ipod onto full blast unless you like a Scottish accent.

It's all about managing expectations. assume the worst and you will likely be pleasantly surprised.

You do know which airport you are going to, I hope.

Well I did say DUB in my OP.

There are seven of us in our group going for an office day out. So wondering where to sit is an issue, but you all seem to have solved it.

Thank you. Will let you know in a few weeks how it went.

A good few years ago, I flew from MAN to CRL with Ryanair.
They let the Priority Boarding through the gate first, we were held downstairs by the exit airside until all the non priority boarding passengers were behind us. Causing a mass scramble for the aircraft.

I would not other paying it again, but then again I would not fly with them again on principal anyway.

If you really want to sit together, then priority boarding is your best option. Otherwise be at the gate really early and join the line.

I'm sure MOL will be crying into his Cheerios ..

For a half hour flight I don't think we are that bothered.
