In Flight Fight!

Up to 12 British holiday-makers are being questioned by police in Barbados after a 'vicious' brawl broke out at 30,000ft on a flight to the Caribbean island.

The passengers, who are thought to have been drinking, had to be split up by fellow travellers and the Virgin flight's crew.

At least one man ended up with a black eye and a woman had her arm in a sling following the half-hour bout of violence on the flight from Gatwick.

Ugh!!

Well done the sweaty T-Shirt brigade, upholding all that the loco holds dear. And when you do put a pound or two into the pockets of the plebs, what do you expect?
(By the way, I have only had occasion to use the plastics bracelets three times: one when a "mule's" cargo split inside him with quite remarkable results, and twice on female passengers from Finland.)

Let's hope that if found guilty they are refused passage home and have to fork out for a full fare ticket.

As long as there are no reasonable limits set on alcohol consumption at the airports by passengers before flying, such incidences will continue to occur. The transformation of airport terminals (after security) into shopping malls and 'pleasure' zones has blurred the edges of what is daily life with the rarified business of aluminium tube conveyancing.

According to the newspaper, they've been told to make their own way home......Virgin won't fly them. What happens if no other airline will either, I don't know. I suppose they could be deported with some big hefty coppers beside them and them handcuffed all the way back.

Barbados news story

Brit brawlers fined $22 500 -- NationNews Barbados -- Local, Regional and International News -- nationnews.com

if they are banned from Virgin I hope the other airlines follow suit

The Barbadian$ fine of $7500 roughly equals £2000

At least there has been no delay in bringing this to court, or need to write reports or other such delays.

It appears I was incorrect earlier it was $7500US which is about £4600

That nicely takes care of the Bajan side of things.
Now what about arresting them when they return to the UK and prosecuting them in Britain. Perhaps a different turn of phraseology in the charge. That should liven them up a little.

Why let them return to the UK? They could become the modern equivalent of Wagner's Flying Dutchman!

Cavorting......
This will be double jeopardy according to the CPS (Criminal Prosecution Service).
What should have occurred is the refusal to "land" at Barbados, then kept inside until arrangements for "removal" at their cost (under restraint to prevent further instances), then handed to UK authorities who have jurisdiction for the offences on board which occurred on UK territory"flight" - then sentence here with condition to prevent flying

Not just "the plebs"

May not be quite as safe in Club or First Class as you thought. Watch out for the sweaty Ralph Lauren T-shirt brigade with the odd grand or two in their pockets.....

The way I read the report, the limits at the airport (do remember that if you are tanked up at the airport then you are likely to be turned away from the flights. Just because there isn't a set "limit" doesn't mean it's a free for all) wouldn't have made a difference since they got tanked up on the Virgin flight itself.

So maybe it's time for Virgin to review their "free hooch all the way" policy.
