advice needed

We are due to travel to NZ next week, my husband myself and my daughter. He decided to leave me at the weekend for someone else (totally out of the blue I might add) and now I am contemplating going alone with my daughter (staying with friends). My question is do I have to cancel him officially or just turn up at the airport without him. I am the lead passenger. The tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. I just thought someone on here would know. I cannot be bothered at the moment to phone airlines. (Virgin and AirNZ). Thanks in anticipation of any advice.

You can turn up and just say that he won't be travelling, you don't need to do more than that.

{hug}.

I appreciate that you don't feel like doing it, but I would suggest you phone and cancel, it would possibly free up the seats for someone else. Also the taxes - not a small amount - may be refundable.

I hadn't thought about the tax. I will have a look and see if it is worth it.

Sorry to hear your sad news but you might be able to transfer the ticket into someone else's name for a small fee. Might be worth asking the airline about this possibility if you have a friend willing to travel.
Anyone looking to go to NZ next week?

NZ is in Band D for APD. As of 1 November 2010 this is GBP85 in economy and GBP170 in economy+, business or first.

ANZ will miss him in the headcount during boarding; they have the opportunity to substitute a stand by passenger at the last moment.

Meet another bloke (or a woman - sup to you) and take him / her along with you. Send pictures to your ex.

My thoughts exactly, well, more or less...

If you are allowed to make (and pay for) a name change, take a friend, take your daughter's friend, whatever, ON NO ACCOUNT waste the money you have paid for that seat.

Whether the friend contributes to the cost is nothing to do with the airline.

I have in the past on long long haul booked and paid for a third seat when two of us were travelling. I've only done it when the seats were pretty cheap of course but it was usually more comortable and cheaper than two seats in old style business class. So I'm not sure that an airline can just dump another passenger in a seat that's been paid for by another. I reckon at the worst you'll have three seats between the two of you.
So if Air New Zealand, which is a great airline, will be compassionate, get a refund, take a friend or, just turn up with a blow up doll, bought from a sex shop and check him or her in(probably her I suspect) as Mr Dexter5. You might have to camp it up a bit as a lesbian but then you'd be providing your daughter with a story worth telling for the rest of her life.
I hope you have an excellent holiday and get through this difficult time with panache and the odd kiwi fruit.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I have actually laughed for the first time this week! I am definitely going on Friday (he is taking me to the airport!). Always fancied going out with a pilot! Cheers!

I did mean to add that the ticket is not transferrable to anyone else. Doesn't really bother me. It's his money, well half of it!
