Window seat please!
I've been flying for forty plus years and I still love to have a window seat. It can be especially rewarding on gin clear days. I have great fun identifying cities, towns, landmarks, airports, other (air) traffic, etc. Thank goodness most of the stuffy and boring business travellers go for the "I'm an old hand at this" macho aisle seats! Do you like to look out of the window? What about pilots flying as pax?

As a pilot who periodically has to position with my own airline, I have a running battle trying to be allocated an emergency exit. Apparently the argument I use, i.e. I am trained to use the exit and tested on my knowlege of the operation of the exit every year is not sufficient. SLF apparently prefer extra legroom to the extra safety of having a person sitting at the emergency exit who could actually open it in a hurry if necessary.
Sorry about the rant, nothing to do with SLF, bless you all. To answer your question, it depends on the length of the flight. A short hop on a nice day, then yes I'll look out the window. A couple of hours, give me an isle seat so I can stretch my legs without climbing over people, and its easier if you need "the restroom".

No matter how many times I fly, I've always try to get a window seat. Something about breaking through the thick cloud on a miserable british day, into bright glorious sunshine garing off the cloud fields!
Even more so on a clear day when you can spend the entire flight spotting landmarks etc.

Hi BRUpax
Ive been fortunate to have never been stuck in the aisle yet. My Girlfriend is very accomadating and I thank her. I would be lost if I couldnt look out the window and one of the highlights of any trip for me is the flight (so I look forward to coming home--I get depressed when the wheels hit the ground). As my home is directly between DTW and ORD, I can often spot my town from 30,000ft and managed a nice photo on a trip from ORD to BOS. I usually get a stiff neck from turning to look out the whole flight. The shade is never closed on my window.
Please go look at my website. I have some great window seat shots there. Scott

Yup, window seat every time for me, clear dark nights are my favourite time. Long haul I sleep undisturbed by someone who's convinced they have to get up every half hour to avoid DVT!
And of course I'm blessed with a relatively capacious bladder...

Window seat is imperitive - so imagine how I felt when on a flight from RNO via SFO to LHR and booking in 2 hours early at RNO only to be allocated a seat at SFO AFTER all the check-ins where done - you know how hemed in you feel in the middle of a B777!!! Just to top it off about 60-70% of all window seats had the blinds pulled down from boarding to landing :-(

Bit late reacting to this topic...
Window seat for the day flights on sectors up to 5 hours whilst I prefer the aisle seat for overnight flights....
However if you are flying to South Asian destinations with a certain lower Gulf based airline, suggest that you wear some head protection if in the aisle seat!!
There is a habit for SLF to stuff overheads full of bags that should be in the hold (too large and heavy for the cabin), and plastic bags full of duty free that slide easily over over bags. Thus when the overheads are opened
there is a strong chance that something will drop out and crack you on the 'bonce'!!
I know it happened to me while the a/c was positioning for the stand in DXB! Very painful...whilst the crew were sympathetic there was no apology from the SLF involved!
NOTE: Airlines and aircraft manufacturers alike should install a 'net' in front of the bin to prevent bags falling when opened.

Bully for you mutt!!! But you're too busy showing off instead of answering the question. I too travel on staff tickets and in answer to your question BRUpax, if I get a choice I'll go for the window seat too - especially on long hauls, so that I have something to lean my pillow on and I don't get disturbed either by the pax next to me and pax/crew bumping past me in the aisle. And, yes, I like to see what's outside if the vis permits.

My answer to this question is in my signature line!!
I agree with all the window people. Day or night, rain or shine - if I do not have a window, I feel deprived. Even London to EDI or IOM (which I ought to know by heart) are still interesting every time.
The WORST I have EVER had was being trapped in the middle block in a UA 747-400 in Y. this was SFO to HKG (Kai Tak) and so about a dozen hours and the neighbours all talked at high volume and slurped their noodles. Gak! This could have been an early case of air-rage!
What really made it hurt was that this was a new route for me. OK, I KNOW that most of it would have been water - but I want to see the water OK??!!
As I am shuttling on EZY twixt LTN and EDI a lot, I scoot around to the rear stairs and almost always get a window in the last couple of rows, whilst the mob are blocking the aisle at the front ;-)

A window seat on the sunny side of the aircraft, please!

Avman,
That’s not showing off, showing off would be something along the lines of saying that I prefer window seats in business class with an empty seat beside me, that allows me enough room to sleep against the window and have a spare seat for friends to come visit!
Showing off would be asking “what is economy class”?
But no, I remembered my more humble days when I got to stand around like a spare p…k waiting for the last 5 minutes before getting on-board, in those days, the idea of even thinking about window seats was totally alien, I was just happy to get a seat which went to my destination!
I guess that you just didn’t see the humour!

Hey I did answer the question.....

You can probably guess that i work for a very uneconomical airline!

I always ask for the window seat. even if its a long flight. It's not easier to sit in the aisle, because when the other two want to get to the restroom they have to wake you up. i'd rather be the waker upper, rather than the woken.
and i like looking out the window too!

Window seat for me - something to lean on when falling asleep without risk of body parts falling in aisle and getting hit.
Being able to see out of the window a bonus as most cabin crew seats do not allow that luxury - added bonus as cabin crew have very strong bladders due to experience waiting to get in toilets!
