Cockpit/Tower Communication Broadcast

In the early eighties I flew from LAX TO HON on a UA flight. This was only the second flight I had ever taken, however, one thing stuck in my mind about that flight. Prior to and during take off, I was able to listen to the cockpit/tower/ATC/ communications via the in flight entertainment system. Having made hundreds of flights since then, I have never experienced this again and wonder if any airlines still allow these broadcasts? Looking back at that flight, I was served a fantastic Hawaiian style dinner on a leaf with free flow drinks served at a bar at the rear of the cabin by a dedicated bartender IN ECONOMY! Boy how things have changed.
