From Manx Radio today:

http://www.manxradio.com/readItem.as...8&cate=General

Quote:

A spokesman for Liverpool's John Lennon Airport says they have had "very little negative comment" regarding the introduction of an additional £2 charge to go through security.

The airport says the charge is needed to cover increasing security costs, although major user EasyJet (which doesn't fly to the Isle of Man) says these are already covered by fare supplements paid by passengers.

Although turnstiles have been installed, the charge hasn't been actually levied as yet, although it was scheduled to be introduced on Monday.

General Manager for Corporate and Community Affairs at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Robin Tudor, says they have to cover their costs somehow, and he doesn't agree that this is already covered in arrangements with airlines such as Easyjet: (first audio clip)

The DHSS on the Island has expressed concerns about the charge, as the Manx Government pays for 6,000 patients a year to fly to Merseyside for specialist treatment.

It would therefore face the possibility of having to find an extra £12,000 per annum.

Mr Tudor says he sympathises with their position and is prepared to have discussions to try and find a way forward: (second audio clip)

Barriers still not in operation and various signs for their operation and use have been removed. I wonder why??

Latest is that they are having meetings with the airlines on the introduction of this charge. Bet it gets incorporated into the "additional charges" that all airlines add on to their published fares

Report in the papers last week suggests the barriers will be removed. Apparently the Airlines got together and forced the management of JL airport to back down.

The charges in their original form have been abandoned but the equipment remains in place. As this equipment cost a lot of money, the management may reimpose the charge in another format, as a voluntary contribution for fast tracking. Hope nobody does contribute if they do introduced it and it is confined to the bin where it belongs.

why shouldnt people see family and relatives off, for some it can be a stressfull thing flying... seems these days that some people that work in avaiation, doesnt want general public near them, mabe supermarkets could do the same , only allow the person paying the bill into the store, no more drunks and kids running around
