LPL to introduce £2 turnstiles for PAX to enter security! Another chance to screw you for more money or legitimate scheme to pay for extra security?:confused:

So Peel Holdings, a company making millions of pounds, can't afford the additional £3million for increased security? What a load of cr4p! Just how much are the turnstiles going to cost and maintain? What happens when they, like so much of the meccano set that is Liverpool Aiport, fails and/or falls apart.
I have had the misfortune to use the collection of portakabins that mascarade as an airport by the side of the river Mersey on more than one occasion lately. I'm happy to say I will never, as long as I have breath in my body, be lining Peel Holdings pockets with my hard earned. This airport is an embarrassment to aviation, and this latest con to extract money from passengers shows the airport owners up for the money grabbing incompetants that they are.
Oh, and not content with banning private taxis from the front of the airport building they now propose charging black cabs £2,400 per year for the honour of picking up passengers! This place really does beggar belief. :mad:

Just don't use the place, nothing lost and lot gained can always go to Man sure that would sway them to think again, as saying goes vote with your feet.

Not using the place might work but if it is seen to be bringing money into the coffers you can bet your life the other airports will follow suit as soon as possible. Then you're back to square one!:ooh:

Not the fault of the pax, though. More down to to overly generous deals given to the LCCs. Presumably it is the duration of those deals which precludes the airport passing on these extra security costs to the airlines who in turn will pass them on to the pax through increased ticket prices. So the airport is looking to recoup through the turnstiles. Every now and then in any business something goes wrong with the cost base and good management should always have flexibility in it's pricing agreements or adequate reserves to absorb the cost until the opportunity to fix the problem comes around. It seems that the dash for growth by Peel Holdings has overlooked this.

Incidently I am fed up with pricing policy of the airline business as whole. Everything which was previously considered part of the cost is now being extracted and charged separately as an extra - fuel, insurance, security, APD, airport handling charges, food, baggage, seat selection, "service" charges, credit card fees; this list goes on and on. On some routes the cost of these extras far exceeds the actual ticket price. There will come a time when the customer base has had enough. Soon, I hope!

Nearly every business has government imposed charges but airlines and now airports seem to want their cake and to eat it too!.

Supermarkets for example have to pay for waste disposal, would you be happy to buy your weekly shopping, pay for it at the checkout and then find the only exit barred by a turnstile requiring an extra charge for waste disposal which you would either have to pay or leave your shopping there.

This security is part of the costs of running an airport and should be passed to the airlines who in turn can pass it on to the consumer if they wish. It is about time the Office of Fair Trading or whatever it is now called put a stop to this practice in the airline industry which is getting way beyond a joke.

easyJet have now taken legal advice on this charge and are urging PAX not to pay it. They say their agreement with LPL does not allow the airport to levy more security charges as this is included in their contract with them. Ryanair have been quiet on this which is unlike them.
The barriers have now been installed and the the ticket machines on the ground floor are in place. Looking forward to the next installment!!:hmm:

I don't know for sure but I suspect it's probably perfectly legal. I'm not even sure the the European Commission will have any objections either, airports are run as a business and they compete with each other on that basis so it could be argued that if one airport decides to levy an extra charge for it's services then this is a business decision and it is for the customer to choose whether or not to use their services.

The interesting point would be the obligations of the carrier and if they have to make you aware of such a charge. Many airports around the world levy an 'Exit Tax' and I've never been made aware of this in advance by the carrier, if you don't pay then you can't use the airport.

It's all a part of the plan whereby airports and airlines do everything they can to annoy passengers and treat them like dog excrement. The passengers, for the most part, whinge about it but then carry on as normal using the same airports and airlines even when there are other reasonable and sensible alternatives.

Is already in the ticket price......so why have a tax on the tax, or am I missing the point.
I do hope that EVERONE who passes thru security pays, ie retail staff, police, crew, as well as the security staff themselves....or am I missing the point.

What about a boycott of all of the retail outlets at the airport?

Could that persuade them to drop this iniquitous tax?

Well let's think. The North West region has two main airports in MAN and LPL. Not too far away for those in the East of the region is Leeds Bradford, and for those in the South of the region BHX. The North of the region now also has growing Blackpool services too. Liverpool also has a sea port, and Holyhead is not hugely far away either which is handy as Dublin is one of the most popular destinations from the North West.
There are trains to MAN from all over the North and Scotland. There are buses to LPL, including those from central Manchester.
Considering that travellers from across the region criss-cross it to these various airports, which often offer pretty much the same routes (MAN LH being the exception but then again this thread is about LPL) then It seems you wouldn't really have to do much to find alternatives... :ugh:

Place the turnstiles at the concourse doors and charge everybody £5.00 to come in, that should deter the dossers coming in for a warm,the taxi/private hire touts looking to rip you off, and 15/20 relatives coming to see uncle off for his trip to the old country.

Yeh...something sensible at last..!:ugh:
