IFE - Why does it stop so soon?

Does anyone know why some airlines IFE completes LONG before landing prep?

Virgin & Singapore seems to run it close to their landing prep, Cathay programming however 'runs out' for what seems like an hour + before landing. Then we all sit there drinking more booze to pass the time.

Isnt there an auto restart at the beginning funtion on the IFE?

Films I can understand would only run full cycle but with the TV channels, why dont they just auto restart it?

Then on really crap flights, the only thing eventually left running is the absolutely hugely hilarious 'Just for Laughs' on all channels Bring back Mr Bean....
