Heathrow Passport Control

A funny thing happened to me yesterday at passport control/immigration at LHR.

I was returning from Dubai to the UK on a UK passport , when I got to the desk and handed my passport to the immigration officer , I must have inadvertently crossed some line and was politly requested " Sir, can you please step out of the country" She then completed reading/looking at my passport and then let me cross the line again.

Has anyone else had anything similar?

That's a good line!

I don't myself understand why passengers have such a hard time understanding the clear sign that says "Please wait in front of the desk", and always move to block the gap between the immigration officers' desks through which their neighbouring passenger is about to make their getaway.
