Thumbs down Singapore Airlines Reservations

Does anyone know why it is impossible to get through to SQ reservations. I booked on line like a good passenger should, but there are certain questions I need answering.

You get through on the 0870 number which makes them money, you have to listen to a whole load of stuff unconnected with reservations, you eventually get given the extension to dial, only to be put through and told ' all agents are busy, please try later' and then they hang up, you can't even wait in a queue, mind you that would cost me even more money!

I did once get through on a general line 020 number I think and was put through to reservations that way but not much joy on that recently either.

I have been trying for several weeks and at different times and they only operate 09.00 to 1700. I want to ask a simple question and I am getting seriously p....d off with it. I am flying Raffles class and I think if I hadn't already got and paid for my booking I would change airlines.

I e mailed them and all I got back is that they are busy!!, I know that!! What a way to treat actual and potential passengers!!

Ah, maybe they only have one reservation sales agent, that might be the reason.

Call them in the US or Singapore. Calling the US is often cheaper than these 0870 numbers nowadays.

Their UK reservations service is hopeless and has been for years. I'm a PPS Club member and even the special number is useless. I usually find an e-mail complaining sent from their website gets a response within 24 hours and someone rings me but overall they are not interested.

The UK public relations manager is called John Cotton and his number is 020 8563 6767 or you can fax him on 020 8987 9337 or e-mail him at [email protected] but don't bank on getting him to respond either. Alternatively, I find Malaysia Airlines answer the phone pretty promptly and you can't get a fag paper between the offerings these days....

SIA

Thanks for your replies. I do not understand how the airline has got such a good reputation. As far as I am concerned when spending 12+ hours in an aircraft the service etc needs to be as good as possible.

However, that is not helped if the passenger is so stressed out to start with, being unable to get through to reservations to ask a simple question. It is terrible service, I still haven't managed it yet!! The question maybe medical related or I may want to upgrade to first or change my reservation, if the airline is not careful it will have sent a passenger to the looney bin. They must make a fortune out of the 0870 number.

PAXboy thanks for the information about the USA, havent done that yet.

Skyflier if you have the same treatment even though you are a PPS Club member what help is there for us lesser mortals!! Please tell me that the service is as good as I am told.

Ideally I wanted to give BA a go to CEB via HKG but there is more flexibility with SQ and much better connections. At least with BA you know what you are getting - I think!!

Thanks all for listening

Once you get past reservations and are travelling, SIA is generally about the best in the business. I've rarely known anything go wrong and when it has, they move everything to put it right. They do look after PPS members particularly well but they look after all their passengers very well 99% of the time. Like any other company, things go wrong occasionally.

It is worth calling the reservations number in Singapore - I guess it is often cheaper than using the 0870 number as the service is pretty prompt - particularly if you use it in the evening when it's night time in Singapore - 00 65 6229 8888.

SIA

Thanks Skyflier and the rest of you for the information. I will stick with my booking and see how it goes. From all I read it seems to have a great reputation.

Havimg returned today from my LHR -SIN - SYD - BNE - SIN - LHR all on SQ in Y i'definately say that it was the best flying experience i have ever had with an airline and that was flying with a 20 month old.......friendly helpful staff....(they even offered to take said child away for a half an hour to allow us to get some sleep!! he was being very good though) excellent food.. seats of choice on all 4 sectors (can recomend row 32 on there74 's

Changi airport is by far the best airport i have ever been in. i think the directors of BAA need to go there to see what can be done it makes LHR look a complete disgrace.

It will take a lot for me to look beyond SQ for a similar trip in the future.

BA have a lot to learn. IMHO

I have flown 6 sectors on SIA and have found them to be nothing flash. To be honest i don't know why everyone carries on about them, they're just as good as BA or QF.

I was also speaking to a senior Captain of a reputable airline not long ago and i asked him which airlines he would not fly with? His reply was JAT (Yugoslav Airlines) and Singapore Airlines. He said SIA have a very good press/advertising department, as they tend to have a lot of safety issues which would normally make the papers, but for some reason don't. He said he's seen things happen with SIA which would usually be in the media within minutes, but they never appear, so someone is doing their job right! I have no reason to doubt his word either, so............

I've done twelve long haul sectors with SIA in the past 18 months - all economy and no complaints. Good service, good entertainment, decent food and always on time.

As was mentioned Changi is a good airport for a stopover and Singers itself is a great day trip if you have enough energy in between flights.

Great hosties' too

Ozcabincrew,
I think with a username like that you may have a hidden agenda. QF are definitely not in the same league as SQ. I have flown extensively in the last five years mostly long haul and mostly with SQ. However I have also flown with Lufthansa, Thai, Qantas, and Air New Zealand, when I do it reminds me why I fly SQ.

As for “I know a guy who heard from the wife of the guy who makes the tea at one of the airlines who has seen a singapore airlines aircraft”
I think I’ll need more than that to forgo top service, in favour of someone who thinks that you should be thanking them for flying on their airline, as you strain the watch the TV screen 20 rows ahead behind the guy standing in the aisle.

OZcabincrew I fly enough miles a year to be a SIA PPS member and latterly I've also flown with QF enough to have a Platinum card. I fly QF when I don't have a choice. Trying to compare the experience of SIA and QF from a passengers point of view is not worthwhile as one is superb virtually all the time while the other is mediocre at best on a good day - you can work out which is superb as I only fly QF when I don't have a choice.

As a SQ Captain, that's nothing but flamebaiting!!! I don't know what your adgenda is but it's pretty obvious!

Since you seem to be so in the "know", perhaps you'd like to share some of your allegations?
