Do you have to go by Gulf? The standard of service on flights eastwards from BAH/AUH/MCT has gone down the tubes in my opinion. Previously you has charming Irish/Canadian/Brit and Aussie Stewardesses with a good sprinkling of SE Asian beauties. Now you have those who can hardly speak a correct sentence of English although I understand their Hungarian, Romanian and Bulgarian is excellent. Gulf Staff seem to have forgotten how to smile, and how to re-fill your empty glass.

It's a couple of years since I've flown Gulf Air, but I've done 3-4 long haul to Asia with them in cattle class, and a couple Business Class to the Middle East.
Unless they really have gone downhill recently, I'd recommend them above a lot of other carriers. Better food and better service than some of the competition.

We (GF) use A340s on the run from BAH-SIN-SYD.
It all depends in which class you are travelling. In EY it can get quite busy, with a lot of kids. This is because we crew a "Sky-Nanny" on this flight, who is looking after (within reason) the little ones.
In F, one of my colleagues (Inflight-Chefs) will be looking after your meals, and (specially) out of SYD the catering is really great.
As for the rest of the crew, you will find quite a few Aussie girls and one or two Greek ladies, as we operate in codeshare with Olympic Airways.....

Gulf Air have the smallest seat pitch (28") in economy of any major scheduled carrier. This is a big problem for me (long legs and big feet!) but if it is not a problem for you then they appear to offer some very good value flights.
TallGuy.
Edited to add some comparisons:
Qantas - 30"
BA - 31"
Singapore - 32"
Emirates - 32"
Malaysian - 34" (My favourite . I did LGW - KL - SYD last year)

well what can i say about gf, well aircraft ok, it was one of the old sq machines so good seat pitch, pvts and footrests.
food (y class) pretty good in comparison to others
cabin crew, the rudest mosy unhelpful people i have ever flown with, most australian, they talked and looked at the pax like they had just scraped them off their shoes, i had to laugh at one point and this one girl, shouting at a passenger who ahd asked for a drink, it was unbeleivable
next time ek, qf, ba or sq are getting my hard earned, guess it is true you do get what you pay for
