Rat......Metro???
Bankstown would have to have the largest number of "Inactive Aircraft" parked on it by the looks of the other day??????? From memory YMMB had a couple of old AC500's What was the name of the shonky coastwatch company that went bust years ago and left AC690's ???? scattered all over the country. |
RatsoreA,
This is it: HS-125 VH-ECE. I used to take my late grandfather for drives around that neck of the woods in the years before he popped his clogs, which was 1989, so it's been there a while now. |

As of about 10 yrs ago, there was a very low hour Cessna A185F sleeping it's useful life away in a hangar at Quairading in the WA wheatbelt. It was locally owned, but hadn't been flown for more than 10 years as of around 2000. Couldn't read the rego thru the hangar door gaps. Owners name was, I think, Keevil or Kevill. Often wondered where it is now.
happy days, |
I am aware of another 185 possibly a D model collecting dust in a hangar at JT, that has not flown in many years.
|
Re the HS125 at Camden. I believe it was part of an aviation museum which was set up by Harold Thomas.
|
Saw a PA24-250 single Comanche being "stored" in a hangar, Murray Bridge SA

Is it a baron? VH-TAP? |
Rat Is it a baron? A PA-31... |

I was looking through photos of Baron's a while back and remembered seeing that one. had to search a bit but found it again. How long has the 31 been there? |
Some time, judging by the picture...
I will give you one hint. It is on airliners website, in it's current form! |

The HS-125 belongs to Graham Onus. |
Still 4 ex Macair (are we allowed to say Macair now) Saab 340B's parked at at Townsville. Two may be recoverable but the two out on the grass haven't moved (or been maintained) for a long time.

VH-TAP
TAP was owned and operated by the Airport Flying School in Canberra. The school closed down at the end of 2004. When the parking bill came in for all the grounded school A/C in June 2006, they were all moved to Yarrawonga, along with 2 x 152, 2 x 172's and a Seminole.

In Cairns a couple of months ago were a Caravan that had taken a swim, a C340 refurbished but owner unable to find work for it, a Chieftain that hasn't flown for years but engines still get run monthly, 2 ATR's, A B727, a Belfast and a Falcon 20! Who knows what is tucked away in the various hangars around the place.
|
Does anyone remember what happened to a very low time N-rego'd
PA-31-350 first parked at YMMB 20 year ago down near Ausair. Something about money still owed in the USA. I last saw it 10 years ago and looked very sad for a 400 TT A/C. |
RatsoreA
Is it the old grey girl at YBAF owned by an Englishman? |
----wasn't impressed with them at all. None of us were, only aircraft I ever flew that weathercocked out of wind in a X-wind. Undercarriage designed by Messrs. Heath Robinson and Co. Big block of faired hardwood down the guts, and extended pads on flap hinges, like little wingtip floats --- wouldn't it have been better to just have a simple gear, instead of equipping the aircraft with "gear up gear"??. ---- but what would you expect from the poms ---- and DeHavilland never really made the transition to all metal aeroplanes, did they ?? Tootle pip!! |
Re the HS125
I stand corrected - so exactly what is in the Thomas collection?
I recall in "helping" HT transport a ex-RAN Gannet ( I think) from Bankstown out that way - must have been in the late 1960s or early 1970s. |
Alice Kiwican the 'van was dunked by Mad Max just off Green Is after an endorsement in-flight-shut-down-and-relight went a bit wrong :{
The 727 and Belfast still work (irregularly) for Heavylift The Falcon (10 not 20) is owned by the bank after being repossesed from :mad::mad: who is a complete :mad::mad::mad:; the aircraft is basically unsellable. |

Anyone know what happened to the old C310Q that stood for years derelict at WGT?
Vh-RIX an ex Hazo's plane Also the old PA31 that has stood still for many years at AY on the GA Tarmac, another sad mess. Wmk2 |
What about the Saab lighty at Broken Hill.
Been there a long time now. |
RatsoreA....holy cow!! i was having a drink with an old flight buddy on Tuesday night when he asked if i knew what happened to SAO and did Mal Poulton still own it?? I'll be buggered mate....speak of the devil!! Where is it now??
|
Told you it had been around! That was old and clapped out when I did my PA-31 endo on it all those years ago! And nearly everyone I have spoken to that has PA-31 has flown it!
MP was running skydiving with it all over for a while there, then I heard it got sold to some skydiving mob who couldn't afford the repayments or maintence, and now it is derralict at ymmm. That's what I heard anyway! |
What's the story with that Falcon 10 up in Cairns. been sitting around at various airfields around.
|
Bizzybody
The Falcon 10 is owned by the bank after being repossesed from http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/censored.gifhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/censored.gifhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/censored.gif who is a complete http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/censored.gifhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/censored.gifhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/censored.gifhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/censored.gif; the aircraft is basically unsellable. Its the only one of the type in the country, previous to the defaulter was owned and operated by Wagners at TWB, only one LAME in the country certified to maintain it, hasn't been flown or maintained for about two years apart from occasional engine runs. Last owner was at ROM, paid $1.2M I think.... actual value is somewhere south of $0.5M. |

Grumman Tiger, Como, Perth, Western Australia.
Repurposed as 3 yr old's cubby house (his total air time now getting up to about 40 hrs and about 9000 ground flying hours in the cubby) Working on lawn towards north as cricket/footy/soccer pitch. http://www.flightclub.com.au/pics/gr...tiger_como.jpg (and you can see the roof tiles off when I was doing some speaker/CAT5 cabling too!) |
Im curious about a certain N rego PA31 that sat at Wallis Island Airstrip near
Forster NSW late 1980s to at least early to mid 90s. It was Rumored that there was a criminal element to it being abandoned. Anyone know for sure ? |
I remember VH-SAO in 1979 when owned by Ozzie in NT, even way back then it was called "SAO The Biscuit Bomber" and considered a heap. Amazing that some of these old girls are still about. Mind you some of the original PA31 pilots are still about as well, at least I flew these things when they were brand new.
|
These old Boeing 737 classics and Fokker F28's have been sitting in Surabaya, Indonesia for some years now. The airframes are available for sale for around $25K USD. They'd make a nice granny flat if you have enough space in your backyard for a 737.

SAO and IXP were sister ships and when I first knew them had matching Buffalo on the tails (from Ozzie's). I think they were both working for the same bank run operation, owned by ______ Armstrong.
A drilling company bought IXP and had it refurbished (ironically, at Yarrawonga) and Mal bought Soggy SAO - last I spoke to him (last Sept) he was CFI for Brindabella :uhoh: - I hope he was given a suitable parachute from that gig when the decision was made. IXP still going strong in TW working for Billy Bryant :ok: I've often wondered how the PA-31 bigots here would feel if they were expected to fly all the Queenairs that were around back in the day. Kids these days  |
