AN-225 BNE Tuesday 19/1/10

Apparently due at 1500. First time here. Anybody know any more?

Super Cecil 18th Jan 2010 08:36

I saw a AN12 take off from Brissy once, took all of the runway to get off. When it headed east the thick black trail it left looked like it had a cargo of burning tyres on board. You could still see the wavering black plume fifteen minutes after take off!!!!

Heatseeker 18th Jan 2010 09:03

Not an AN12 but watch this IL (just) make it out of CBR

May be an oldie but still a goodie

(first time I've done this - hope it works)

H

It didn't!

And that clip has been posted here before.

What is the reason for the 225s visit?

Heatseeker 18th Jan 2010 09:09

Ho hum

Just tried to copy my own link into IE - didn't work

Just go to youtube and enter "IL76 departing (almost) CBR

About a pucker factor 8 I would have thought

Apparently it has some goodies on board including NH90 helicopter

18-Wheeler 18th Jan 2010 11:22

I've seen the AN225 from a distance at Dubai a couple of time.
It's rather large.

I'd highly suggest that everyone that's close with a camera try to get a few photos of it.

Zigzag 18th Jan 2010 11:24

Talk it isn't the -225 but a garden variety -124?

DeeJayEss 18th Jan 2010 11:33

Ugly plane, but funny video. "We have Smirnoff". Love it.

I wonder what his performance calcs were like. Engine failure after takeoff, betcha he was no where near OCTG on climbout.

Anyone confirm it's just an MRH90 that's coming over inside?

rodrigues 18th Jan 2010 12:06

AN225 to Brisbane tomorrow!! - Sydney Airport Message Board

These blokes seem to think it's a AN-124...

The_Pharoah 19th Jan 2010 03:03

just saw this big baby on finals into Rwy 01 at approx 14.01pm. looks like an AN-124 but I'm no expert. :ok:

Ixixly 19th Jan 2010 04:45

Ok, so missed it today coming in because of work, what time is it departing?

rodrigues 19th Jan 2010 04:51

Was indeed the 124. Disappointed, though the FM radio is insisting that it is coming, and is merely 'running late'...

FoxtrotAlpha18 19th Jan 2010 10:48

Nice one Eurocopter/Aust Aerospace...get all the spotters and media worked up into a lather to help promote your product, and then blame a late aircraft change for the error! That 124 would've arrived in Marignane to load up three days ago...:suspect:

The 225 was never coming - it was either some PR hack who wouldn't know a 225 from a Cessna - someone says Antonov, he does a quick wiki search, and presto! Or, something more devious to promote the arrival in country of the NFH 90...

Bet ya Jens kicks some butt!

AN-225

how can you mistake the 6 engined Giant of the AN-225 (or as hollywood call it the AN-500) over the Much smaller :} AN-124?

The Мрія would be pretty good to see in the flesh though... Got to hand it to those Ukrainians and Russians... how does one get a job as an F/O on it?

eocvictim 20th Jan 2010 08:52

I'm sure there is a drinking challenge involved somewhere in the selection process. Possibly followed immediately by a sim ride.

DeeJayEss 20th Jan 2010 09:02

I'm confused. Was it an MRH or an NFH that came in the back of the -124?

Because if it was an NFH, then it's clearly apparant that the Government DEFINITELY wants them in lieu of the MH-60R for the Navy. They squashed the Navy's fast track request for the R last month, demanding a tender process, and then three weeks later there's an NFH in country?

Could someone be so kind as to clarify for me please?

Trojan1981 20th Jan 2010 09:04

Twas the NFH and a mock up:ok:

how does one get a job as an F/O on it?
Join the Russian Air Force. If you survive that, a rewarding civillian career awaits; flying into the world's 'interesting' places for crap money, lousy accomodation (or sleeping in the back of the aircraft) and a long time away from your family and friends. All the instruments are in Cyrillic so brush up on your Russian and best unintelligible Ukrainian gravelly accent for radio transmissions. If ATC can understand a word you say, you're just not trying hard enough :} .

Impressive aircraft, though. Possibly worth it...Actually, I thought an AN-225 had come to YBBN once, in the early nineties. AN-124s are reasonably common, maybe three a year.

Joker 10 20th Jan 2010 23:24

There is only one "airworthy" AN 225 in the world
