Airvan on floats?

Has anyone seen an Airvan on floats?

the wizard of auz 1st Jan 2009 23:45

Not yet. But that was the reasoning behind certifying the turbo model, so maybe soon.

aussie_hawk 2nd Jan 2009 10:40

I was of the understanding that they were looking to put a turbine upfront e.g. an Allison. This would allow for the airvan to be placed on floats without to big a performance loss, and no associated stretch to the fuselage that some were keen on.

AussieNick 2nd Jan 2009 10:46

the turbine is still a rumour last I heard.

A turbo version would be sufficient enough to lead to a square-can on kayaks

aussie_hawk 2nd Jan 2009 10:59

Last discussions i heard about, were that Gipps had begun looking at outsourcing the engineering work required for the Allison conversion to a US based company due to the delays on the turbo certification over here.

Turbo version is certified and units are being sold already. The Turbo was added specifically for the floats according to the people I spoke to at the factory. If they were going to go for the turbine, it would only make sense to add a bay and increase the seating capacity. would almost be a standard Caravan then.

AussieNick 2nd Jan 2009 11:17

uh, no, the turbo version isn't certified yet. and no they arn't been sold yet.

the wizard of auz 2nd Jan 2009 12:13

I spoke to the factory last week and am only repeating what they told me.

AussieNick 3rd Jan 2009 12:35

oh? i'm confused then. Cause when i was last there, today infact, i heard their still waiting on CASA to get their ass into gear. They are accepting orders for them though

the wizard of auz 3rd Jan 2009 14:43

Maybe that is how it was implied then. I was talking with a lady about getting one of the trade ins. she told me it was all go and they have several aircraft available that gad been traded for the turbo version. Maybe she is talking about future orders or something, but she definitely left me with the impression that it was all happening.

AussieNick 3rd Jan 2009 23:24

would have to be future orders. Unless they have some built, but are just waiting for CASA certification to ship them. might have to sneak around their other hangers and have a look

aeromariner 5th Jan 2009 10:48

standard non turboed beast would go fine on floats for low altitude work which is where floatplanes spend most of their time

The Green Goblin 5th Jan 2009 10:51

I'd love to see a 207 on floats too! :}

bush mechanics 5th Jan 2009 10:59

google soloy.com,They have been doing turbine C207s on floats for a while now
