Dream Job

I'm interested to see what our dream jobs are.. Lets say if every flying job landed you the same coin; where would you be and what would you be flying?

I'm sure there are some young bucks who want the left seat of the 744 and some ol' timers wanting a Beaver on floats.

How about you?

Green gorilla 26th Nov 2008 06:53

Think the more time spent home is a good job.

startingout 26th Nov 2008 07:04

Flying a pilatus porter ski plane at mt cook. If not there, then a porter mountain flying somewhere.

sms777 26th Nov 2008 07:11

My dream job is where i can tell my boss: "Get stuffed, i do not feel like flying your ****box G5 today " and still get paid with all my bonuses and drives me home in his twin turbo Bentley......

empacher48 26th Nov 2008 07:34

Flying Nomads around Mt Cook...

Hang on... I do that already! :ok:

Green gorilla 26th Nov 2008 07:50

The gonad you must be one of the few.

tinpis 26th Nov 2008 08:08

Where did the NT Health N24 s end up VH-DH. etc?
Nice Collins airline gear on them...

FFG 02 26th Nov 2008 08:20

hooters airline - Google Image Search

Not sure about the flying conditions but the view...:ok:

Rob D 26th Nov 2008 08:24

Didn't they go bust?

The Green Goblin 26th Nov 2008 08:39

A twotter on floats flying drunk pommy female backpackers around Ibiza :ok:

Or perhaps the same said twotter on the barrier with the same said backpackers :E

Green gorilla 26th Nov 2008 09:55

Now that sounds like a job.

Track5milefinal 26th Nov 2008 11:05

QF or DJ 738 skipper!

hogespa28 26th Nov 2008 11:11

I'm a young buck wanting a beaver on floats... Or maybe a twotter, who knows one day I may be old and boring and need the twin time

TWOTBAGS 26th Nov 2008 12:36

Did 3 years on the TwinOtter on floats in the Maldives.... now i fly a jet.

Best fun you can have in public I reckon.

I got intimately acquainted with one on wheels a few weeks back.

It really makes you remember where you cut your teeth, the mates you made and the fun time you had back when you wished you flew a jet........

aileron_69 26th Nov 2008 13:27

08-600

Flying a brand spanking new 08-600 Cresco with aircon and a hydraulic hopper out of the Twizel base, where all the cockies had concrete, sliding roof super bins and I could fly 800 hours a year. Most of you dont probably know what im talking about except old mate empacher there who knows how fantastic the sunrise on a calm day over the main divide can look like!!
...One can only dream

ad-astra 26th Nov 2008 13:47

I thought-

I was the 'ants pants' when instructing on a PA-38,
An ACE when given control of an AC-50.
I was **** hot when I got my first Turbine on a N22.
Life was over when the F27/F28 came along,
and I still smile when I keep a 737 on the rails.

Just enjoy what you've got. There will be something much nicer just around the corner but if you don't appreciate the present you will never really enjoy what a career in aviation is all about.

Still smile about the Aero commander though!

rearwhelsteer888 26th Nov 2008 22:34

AC-50

Ad astra.
I agree, The commander is a great aircraft, can't say enough good about them.
I just had a few too many hours in them. that's all.
Only complaint about them: Shocking in turbulence!

Just Flying.

coke drinker 26th Nov 2008 23:30

Um....Instructor or professional antique aeroplane flyer. Definitely more GA than RPT

(Ideally it'd be Formula One World Champion but that isn't going to ever happen)

bestpilotindaworld 27th Nov 2008 00:17

GA all the way

Led Zep 27th Nov 2008 01:02

Air Led Zep

Mercenary pilot. If you've got anything and you want it sent anywhere, I'll do it anytime. Rules? I make the rules. If you have an aeroplane I'll fly it. Helicopter gunship? Even better, just show me how to switch to guns because I'll be too close for missiles.
Preferably cruising below tree tops.

Remember kids, VMC is the recommended conditions only, Vne is not a limitation but a target speed to be achieved and anything less than a 25% overload is for pansies. :E

Something more realistic perhaps? Helo firebombing or STOL work into short mountain strips with lots of snow. Dash 7 would be nice. Wouldn't mind a rocket assisted takeoff in a Trislander either.

Tiger 77 27th Nov 2008 01:40

Flying around the bush in a Buffalo or Caribou, on short sectors with lots of landings and takeoffs from rough short strips :)

Probably pretty unlikely so a Kingair doing the same thing would be ok too.

Cheers
Tiger

tinpis 27th Nov 2008 01:45

Stuffing fifteen or so fares into a Pilatus in the highlands of PNG :{

Mark1234 27th Nov 2008 02:32

Beaver on floats in the whitsundays - plus aforementioned backpackers :) Or single seat jets, but I'm a bit old for that!

Not bad, eccept for the military part. I was not a pilot then but wish I was.

Dream job now...probably RFDS

Aileron 69, this countries hipothetical equivilant is maybe flying a Cresco but they only pay you half as much because they recon the Aircraft is twice as productive. You don't have concreted pads, only grass and three foot high thistles, if the truck driver can he'll find some rocks to tip on. The strip you use is rough as guts and full of rocks because the boss thinks he's getting one over the opposition because they refused to work off it. You have to work with a 100 metre swath and tell the cocky it throws to 120. There are still decent jobs around but few and far between.

ad-astra has the right idea, whatever you fly it's a long way in front of everyone who doesn't.

Ex FSO GRIFFO 27th Nov 2008 05:41

Stallie.....VERY GOOD....BUT.....I'm afraid you have come second in the 'Great Race'.....Yep. We're all jealous,...but....

The winner is 'Arm Up...';..............well he LOOKED 'armless enuf' Your Honour.

VH-DHP(S/N N24A-34) Became ZK-NMC lives on flying around Mt Cook - such a beautiful aeroplane to fly - the best in the fleet! ZK-DHU? (S/N N24A-60) became ZK-NMD, was put into storage in Darwin until the boss went over and rescued it with new engines and flew it back to NZ.. Also has the long range and tip tanks in it, so can fly about 8 hours with full fuel. :ok:

ZK-NMD still has the original Collins gear in it, and works like a charm! ZK-NMC has still the Collins gear, bar one VHF which got replaced with an Apollo GPS/COM.

Grumman Goose. Pacific Islands. I hear there is one headed to the Solomon's and one to Fiji to service resorts.
Remember Tales of the Golden Monkey on tv?

carro 27th Nov 2008 06:44

Definately a death pencil in the topend, where 35 degrees outside = 45 degrees in the cockpit.

startingout 27th Nov 2008 09:18

Stallie takes the prize in my books, best of both worlds there!
:ok:

tinpis 27th Nov 2008 09:26

Thank you Mr Empacher
TAA originally decked them out at great expense I would imagine

Good days them good crew and well run by AN when I was involved sadly came to an end in 84

ForkTailedDrKiller 27th Nov 2008 11:28

I'd happily keep my current job - but I would trade the Bonza for a TBM850 !

Dr :8

Stationair8 27th Nov 2008 20:31

Being Hugh Hefner's pilot on his DC-9, would be a reasonable job.
