The B200GT looks pretty flash Capt Wally, and I thought you were talking about something with big doof doof stereo, lowered suspension, fat tyres and driven by a wog from the western suburbs!

Does the Kingair 350 have the big cargo door and also be flown single-pilot?

The Piaggio 188 looks flash, but what sought of product support in Australia and the joy of getting them on the register. Of course the P-188 is not in the league of the mighty P-166 of which Captain Jack Ellis used on some air ambulance flights in Victoria in the early 1960's.

The B200/350 is the same airframe as far as the cargo door goes, just longer for the 350. The P188 I would doubt will ever make it down under for our ops, too many hassles from the type to be learnt (flying & engineering wise) to it's inablity to operate from rough strips without some form of protection from stones to the fancy props, as well as educating the rd ambulance drivers not to run into that funny little wing stuck out the front. Bang into one of them at a country strip & you could sell off the airframe to some pre school for a cubby house!!!!:E
SP okay for the B350 also, just would need to be flown'handled diff with such things like a balanced field length that's all.

Friday night I heard a Fox Delta Kingair requesting twenty nine not long out of Townsville, for Brisbane I think. Non RVSM, obviously.

No GTHO's up that high 'spot':-)And yr right non RVSM for all the KingAir's.:) The std B200 is certified too FL350 but they struggle esspecially in temps like ISA+20 for Eg. The cabin would be above 10K as well.
The B200GT would give it an edge in that area over the std B200 & obviously a better TAS.

Not too sure on the 1900 'S8', the early ones with the same cabin x section as the B200 might do well but the contract will require brand new airframes. The B200 std or GT would suit better for our ops.
Whatever they decide to choose should the RFDS get back the contract will be good 'cause the old MW's are getting tired, much like Capt Wally:)

ATSB reports 200800024, 200600563 and 200400443 all relate PT6 powered SE A/C suffering engine failures :ooh:; two due to mechanical failure and one by other means. And that's just a cursory check limited to Australia. To paraphrase Animal Farm - One fan good, TWO fans BETTER!

KingAirs seem happy around 23000 to 25000 anyway thats from my time on them.

From what I am lead to believe, the GT's are only just going into production or just coming off the production line. There are none around as far as I know.

I'm also pretty sure that the B200GT is also the standard King Air now. The 'old' B200 with the -42's is no longer in production. So you order a B200, you're gonna get a B200GT, :}.

You maybe correct there re B200's only in the GT version but I think they are still available std as we (SE section RFDS) are about to have delivered a few more new airframes with more to be ordered, all with cargo door options. If by chance that the GT is in the future the only airframe available (bar the 350 that is) then goody, at last I might get to fly in words that 'S8' said............with big doof doof stereo, lowered suspension, fat tyres and driven by a wog from the western suburbs! Of course excluding the ref to the wogs, without them this country would have gone down the toilet years ago, who would have done all that concreting in the early days? Just kidding:ok:

'TKFS' yr right all new airframes would be RVSM approved equip wise I would imagine, not so the pilots unless certified, stupid really but hey the law makers know best right?:ugh:

I understand Kingair's that have after market doors fitted, cannot be approved for RVSM as the airflow around the static ports has been altered!

Just checked out this months BC/A and the article on the Piaggio P188, nice plane but can't see them being suitable for air ambulance work.

At least Capt Wally with the old technology Kingair you don't have to stand next to the refueller with a can of "Prist" in your hand while refuelling takes place!!!!

WHats the goss on the possible tenderers for the contract?

'SN' I read somewhere just recently that as of Aug last year Beech where only going to produce the 200GT, but I might have missread it in some way. Would be nice to have new B200GT's though. Out of what is available it's the perfect choice.
In fact there isn't a single other contestant so Beech have that sector al sawn up & they know it! 4get the P188, I'll be an old man when they get a gig doing aeromed her in this country. PC12's might make it but that would require a huge shift in policy, contract requirements & crew thinking, the latter simply won't work.
No on-call from home at EN, you go to work & wait. around 360+ hrs per year per pilot, so it's more a holiday camp:ok: Don't tell too many people, we like flying on average 7 hrs per week:-)
Moral is okay, it's never perfect, haven't seen morale perfect in any industry & i've worked in a few. Good bunch of blokes/gals, finally got some switched on management but the biggest advantage with this type of work is yr essenitally yr own boss so going head to head with another pilot due hassels is only ever on the ground.
As for affordable places to live in & around EN, bugger all I'd say, more like none, you have to go out to 'scumbury' (Sunbury) for Eg. If you want Sth Estern burbs prices.(yuk)

The new tender is in progress, & as for who's in the running? well I believe several where at a pre tender meeting not too long ago. That was the case when last the contract came up but they all faded away.
It's common knowledge that only turbo prop twin eng press A/C will be allowed but doesn't have to be new, that could be interesting.
