They be offering you another 20 years flying according to another thread.

Trex wantok 21st Feb 2009 03:22

APNG direct entry capt salary is about $125AUD with a $15AUD bonus after first year and second year, third year $20AUD thats if you're based in POM ,for Cairns based pilots is $86AUD with annual bonus of $7AUD every year for your first two years. Not sure why the big difference, maybe its png tax:suspect:

Lineboy4life 24th Apr 2009 13:33

the big difference is Morseby is a suck hole....:}

3 years for a dash end. seems a bit steep. hrmm.
I couldn't agree more. I've seen bonds for 747-400 jobs that are only 3 years...

Can anyone please explain why the cost (24k) is so high? One can buy an A320 type rating in the USA for much much less than this amount!

Most of the pilots that fly in PNG its because they have to be there or want to be there, flying in PNG is certainly not for everyone

hardNfast 2nd Feb 2010 00:29

Just after some up to date info.

Are they having F/Os on a fly in fly out roster at the moment? Do you have to be based out of Cairns or anywhere in australia?

Still looking at around $50k with 3 on, 3 off?

Trex wantok 3rd Feb 2010 05:01

Hi HardNFrast,
FIFO is not available to F/Os at the moment Captains only, the two bases for F/Os is Port Moresby and Cairns

hardNfast 4th Feb 2010 02:48

the two bases for F/Os is Port Moresby and Cairns
A Cairns Base would be good. Whats the money like and the work? Are you just doing the flight to Port Moreseby then back, or do you go away for a couple of days before returning?

I worked for APNG a couple of years ago and I truly enjoyed it (from the flying point of view)... the good thing was that the moment you jump on the plane in CNS you did big hours (at least in my days).. up to 16 hrs flying in two days was normal so I worked 3-4 days a week at the most...

Most of the captains are semi-retired "old farts" but they are all good to fly with, are very safe and have tons of experience in PNG. During your training you will spend more time up there (up to 5 days to get you more hours).

In regards to rosters; either you just do CNS-POM-CNS or you might stay up there for a few days and do some domestic flying which is good fun and more exciting than going out "west". There are also a few mining contracts out of CNS but you need a couple hundred hours of PNG/D8 time before you can do these.

The company can be a bit chaotic to say the least in regards to roster changes and so on (the PNG factor) but if you put all this aside the flying is certainly more exciting than at REX or QLink.
The money was paid in AU$ and was always on time but I have heard from people still working there that the taxation, employment and contractual arrangements have now changed - so make sure you do your research in regards to dual taxation agreements, tax deductions and so on. The allowances in PNG were fairly good and you can't spend them all whilst up there (unless you take a whole village out on the piss).

PM me for more info... as I said... I left a couple of years ago so the info might not be up to date. It was certainly a good stepping stone for me and I am thankful to the people there (managers and other pilots) for getting me to where I always wanted to be.

AB

ps.: I might be back in 20 to 25 years time and enjoy my semi-retirement there...who knows... ;)

AQIS,
You are right on the money....APNG is pretty much the same fun flying and good hours

Trex wantok 3rd Mar 2010 09:57

HardNfast
To your question - its both sometime you do a Cairns-O/N return the next day,Cns-Pom d/h back same day and if you're lucky you go away for a few day and do some local flying before you come back

hardNfast 3rd Mar 2010 23:06

Thanks for the info.

Are you on the same coin as Qlink, Skytrans drivers??

Trex wantok 9th Mar 2010 12:50

From what I've heard a little bit more not sure what Qlink is on but more than Skytrans they say

takamasa 16th Mar 2011 05:40

do you know if they are taking any FOs now?

Che cows with guns 16th Mar 2011 23:29

They are always looking for good quality DHC-6 F/O's. Depending on your experience level you may get a slot on a Dash 8. Usually based in Port Moresby but some get straight into a Cairns base.
Pay is good and overall not a bad company to work for. Send them a resume and follow up with an email or phone call. You may be surprised.

Killer Loop 17th Mar 2011 00:12

I concur with Che. They are looking to fill a range of positions right now. T&C's are good. Bids actually closed for internal applicants on Tuesday but it would still be worth sending an e mail to the manager of line operations for external applicants.

Hi all, nice thread.
Just curious, what's the deal with F/O's on the twin otters?
Are they based out of Port Morseby only?
And what sort of flying are they doing?

Trex wantok 25th Jan 2012 06:50

For DHC-6 F/Os they do RPT and Charters, originally you'll be based in moresby and tour of 3weeks on 3 weeks off will be available down the line
