http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...os/Chuck-2.jpg Who is this and where? The posi-check pilot checklist is a dead givaway..... |
How about this for a 'challenging' strip - thought to be South America; anyone know for sure?
http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...ip_640x480.jpg And you know those NOTAMs that say 'RWY xx unavailable due soft wet surface? Someone didn't check before landing on the 09/27 cross strip at Roma.... http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...89_640x480.jpg http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...87_640x480.jpg:= And this is about as close as I wanted to take the Aztruk to this piece of WX http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...10_640x480.jpg |
Top one is Capt chuck in his Bonana?
The crook looking strip is god botherers in Irian Jaya or PNG Christ ! when did it rain in Roma? :uhoh: :hmm: |
:ok: Yup, Chuck and the Bonza again....enroute back from the 747 bash at LRE - 150kt, 50LoP and 40lph.
Dunno where that strip is but bl00dy glad its not something I have to land on. It did rain in Roma once, a couple of years ago. The bogging was bad enough, but when they tried to pull it out with a chain around the nose gear attached to a tractor..... |

That's not what I heard just recently from a reasonably informed source....!!! :} :} :D |
Did Chucky score that old check list off an ancient TAL 402
|
The pic of the Bristol on the previous page reminded me that I had this photo. I was watching the take off from the roof of the control tower when it went pear shaped - fortunately nobody seriously hurt.

Ops, it is indeed TWB RWY11 - the hump is just as bad now, but they've extended and elevated the runoff area so now you can legally takeoff and land ya Kingair with a useful load. As for the wx at ROM - like I said, it were a coupla YEARS ago - but ya source may have rotted his brain with kero fumes by now.....:}
Anyone recognise this strip? At least one PPRUNER spent some quality time here - and that ain't Ayers Rock either:) http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...15_640x480.jpg Tinnie, don't knock the ol' posi-check; I've got one in a box somewhere complete with the original instructions and inserts:cool: I may even stick it in an aeroplane one day:8 Anyone wanna have a shot at this locale? It has an NDB, a bowser and a big ol' hangar....and not much else! I slept on the floor of the office one night under the windsceen covers of the C182 when the air temp was minus 5... :yuk: http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...18_640x480.jpg |
Where this is? http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...15_640x480.jpg
Pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me,!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now where did that windsock come from?:} :} :E :E |
http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...18_640x480.jpg
Question: Does it still have a bowser? Home of Daisy perchance? |
Jamair:
Dat be Forrest eh!! An oxymoron if ever there was one! |
:} Eh Tagneah bloke, you gottim right! :D Dat surely be Forrest, right in da middle of nowhere - the Nullabor. Lobbed in at 0200 local on one trip; could see the PAL from an hour out! Got a pic of the mighty 182 on the wall of fame in the office, along with just about everyone who's ever been through there. They also have a B&B running there now; said to be pretty good.:)
How about this one? http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p..._photos/22.jpg This has become a damn fine thread; haven't enjoyed PPRUNing so much in ages - maybe worth a sticky or even its own title? |
Hmmm, just off to the left of above shot is my old house.... It, like every building in town, used to shake at 1300 with the blasting from the mine. Well worth a look see from the lookout too!
For the record it IS possible to drink a beer at every hotel in town in one day.... :} Had a good ole time in Kal. TQ - what's your betting on the year and month the above photo was taken? Judging by the road and the size of the pit? Speaking of fuel bowsers, here's short final for Sandefjord bay delivering a load of 7 drums of Jet A1.... http://www.remoteadventures.com/webpics/_samson.jpg |
On the ground in Sunny Preveza (northern greece)...please dont adjust your sets, the rain was so heavy it flooded the apron to a depth of around 12 inches in about 3 minutes

Jamair, as CS has already alluded to, that be the Kalgoorlie Super Pit.
The photo would be a few years old as the Goldfields Highway, left side of picture, has since been moved closer to town to allow for the western expansion of the pit. Stallie, that 'beer at every hotel in town' did 'spill' into a second day, but you may not remember that. |
Hmmm, you might be right TQ but only by one beer. IF memory serves me correctly, midnight was at the Federal being served beer by a skimpie in a French maid's outfit:\ And it was from there to the Exchange for the finale!
I don't know how my liver would handle it these days. The homebrew down here's pretty potent though, but no time to drink it! :{ |
Yep, Kalgoorlie it is - 2002 I think. I did a couple of freight runs across from Qld via there to Dongara and was gobsmacked at the size of those holes. Equally gobsmacked by the call-out fees for fuelling, something that was unheard of in Qld at that time. $40-$60 to pump a couple hundred litres of avgas, regardless of whether the guy was already there or not.
Can't comment on the crawlability of the pubs, given I was just stopping for food and fuel, but I'm willing to give it a shot next time through:E Stallie, have I missed something - didn't you go from Nth Qld to South WA last we spoke? What's with the snow thing? It ain't THAT cold in sand-land is it?? And WTF are you driving in those pix - the view looks a bit like a Twotter? |
Jamair,
I can recall paying $60/aircraft at Ayers Rock, aka, Connellan Aerodrome, The Rock Aerodrome, Yulara, etc etc (YAYE) in about 1986, and there were three or four aircraft in our group! |
Jamair, that particular refueller was given his marching orders some time ago.:D
I think BP knew something was wrong when lighties were diverting to Esperance for fuel on their way through to Perth. However Kalgoorlie now has a bowser and soon it will have a facility nearby to relieve bladder pressure.:ooh: |
