Coming home the other "night" - about 2200 local.

Hey compressor stall,

Simply awesome photo.:ok:

I know where you are based, but where exactly were you in that shot?

A question from a beginner ...

In the pic your props are synced pretty well, does your plane have prop sync? And is it always that accurate?

Or is it just coincidence that the props are synced up so well?

Sorry that my questions are a bit basic.

Cheers,

ABX

Ultralights: Looks like VH-ASA to me ;)

compressor stall 27th Jan 2007 18:24

Glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately I do not have the GPS feeding position into my EXIF data, but that berg is approximately S69*13' E076* 26', and I was in the other aircraft at 1000' with a 70-300mm lens.

As for the prop sync, yes the aircraft is equipped with prop sync, although it is relatively uncommon in that it is not a master/slave sync. Magnets create an electric current that are fed into a controller that detects phase difference and varies the voltage to the synchronisation unit that then controls the prop governor. You can also turn the knob to pick up the top or bottom of the wave as is quietest.

I presume that they had it on at the time (normal cruise ops) but looking though my photos it is merely coincidence that they are aligned. Of the aerial photos in my files, this one was one of the few that have the props perfectly aligned.

Cheers

CS

Stallie, would it be correct to say that 1 minute of longitude would be considerably less than 1 nautical mile in your part of the world?:}

Slezy9 27th Jan 2007 23:33

donpizmeov 28th Jan 2007 00:30

Slezy9,

Aren't you suppose to stop and X No.1? Unless of course you are a lass, in which case it would be No.4.

I can almost here the visual no interest call now, those were the days!!!:ok:

ABX 28th Jan 2007 00:32

stallie,

Thanks for the info, I thought I might look up those co-ords on Google Earth however all I saw was lots of large white pixels, I guess that area doesn't qualify for hi-res photography ... or my level of access to G.E. wont give it to me.

Interesting part of the world you're in mate.

Can you post the co-ords for your base?

Had a mate down there a few years ago as a mechanic, said it was one of the best things he has ever done.

Cheers,

ABX

I was thinking the same thing Pinky. The colour combination is unforgettable.

But actually now that I look again at that second pic is it black and gold or green and gold?

Yup, I did. If I'd waited for the page to load fully before I replied (b****y dial up!) I wouldn't have made that boo boo.

Leave a Seminole & a Duchess parked side by side in the dark at a remote airfield & you never know what you might end up with! ;)

Good try Red777, but a pretty obvious photoshop job.

Z:ok: .

das Uber Soldat 30th Jan 2007 00:04

i was thinking that, but it *is* setup pretty well.

correct runway heading, correct frequencies selected, correct VOR selected etc. My only question having not been there is that are you always given a code?

trolleydriver 30th Jan 2007 00:13

nah i wouldn't think so last time i was at hamo it was class D don't think they gave me a code?

Red777 30th Jan 2007 00:21

Are you serious guys if i could make that up in photoshop i wouldnt be a struggling GA pilot...i have plenty of other shots taken during the missed approach we did...and if you take a look at the freq's in an ersa you will see they are all set in the photo.

Anyone know where i can upload a few photos to so i can post a few of the shots turning into and arriving into Hamo for those who think its fake.

For those interested its taken with a Canon300D with 18-55mm set on M mode with Av set a f8.0 @1/250sec shutter speed.

PS great thread this one with some great photos being posted

ABX 30th Jan 2007 01:05

Hey Red,

Those pix don't look shopped to me at all.

Nice photography though, did you experience a little wind into Hamilton Island that day?

Load your pix into Photo Bucket and then use the Insert Image button when posting here on Proon, and you should have no problems getting you pix to appear in your posts.

Cheers,

ABX

Red777 30th Jan 2007 01:36

ABX, umm to be honest mate i can't really remember im pretty sure it was a smooth day with about 10-15kts X wind on finals. Although the next morning i did the T/O from Shute and the weather was crappy with about 15kts X-wind from the left and swirling around in the mountains which made for a interesting departure.
Was very cold also
Fingers crossed these photos turn out below. Pix at 800wide

tlf; MEP was flown up to the Gold Coast for sale and was purchased by a Qantas Pilot! Upon hearing of the purchase TK made the comment that "Now he'll have to learn how to fly!!":E :D
I have'nt heard anything about NPD. Does any Top End Ppruner know?
Oliver;Love the photos of VH-IJE. One of ASA's Chieftains that I did'nt get to fly but apparently it was considered one of the best!:ok:
