http://ensign.ftlcomm.com/planes/air...airtractor.jpg Before rockwell sold to ayres, it was called a thrush. Came as a 300, 301 and 401. designed by a texan bloke named Snow. I have flown the 301, and we only ever called it a thrush. |
wigga,
Your photo is YUSL - to quote a high profile Liberal politician, there is a rock solid, iron clad guarantee on that one! Cheers. VH-MLE |
Hi all,
I only just realised that this post has been going for just over a year, one of the quickest years in my life and there has been some great photos and guessing games going on, keep them coming, have fun. JB |

Remember the Bull Thrush-big brother motor bilong 1430r
x airforce chappie in Emerald used to drop one every now and then. |
This is a snow, which became both the airtractor and the thrush. No such thing as thrush 301, though. Airtractor models were/are 301 through to 802. Thrush models all started with S2. The Rockwell Thrush Commander, later the Ayres Turbo thrush, started at 400gal hopper with p&W 1340, and have grown in size since.
This is a bull thrush, had the Wright 1820 in it, 500 gal hopper. Only 2 left in oz, the rest have been converted to turbines.:8 |
The AT301 was the one I was referring to. was always called a thrush by the bloke I was flying it for......and thus I also called it one. the other one he had was a tad bigger with a few better options, and it also was reffered to as a thrush. I'll dig out the Photos.
OK, upon further investigation, the 301 was manufactured by AIR TRACTOR INC, and the others were indeed S2R's manufactured by AYRES CORPORATION. |
Haughtney...yup! ILSDME...back seat of a twinstar (pre-bbq) as someone said on another thread!!

James Russell, I hope you're not referring to The Rock when you mean flying into Alice Springs at sunset, because Ayers Rock is quite a long way from Alice, :ok:.
