Where is? Clues - Roy Goon was once the CFI and one of his students was to have his Mosquito shot down by flak following the famous raid to breach the walls of a prison at Amiens, France, (Operation Jericho) allowing prisoners awaiting execution to escape. His ex student was to survive as a POW but his navigator died in the crash.

Iredale?
Sqn Ldr Ian McRitchie, RAAF wounded in 26 places. His navigator who did not survive was Flt Lt R W ‘Sammy’ Sampson. When I did my electrical apprenticeship Ian’s brother was the resident electronic whiz in the office next door, unhappily I was not aware of the story at that stage.

A second guess then, Friendly Beaches?

Have to admit that if it is FB then its wider than I remember and the dead trees at the end seem to have gone.

jonobishop 29th Jun 2008 09:08

PLovett

You got it that time! It is indeed Friendly Beaches - what a beautiful part of Australia. The 172 is VH-RNJ from Freycinet Air.

PLovett 29th Jun 2008 09:48

You'd think I'd remember it better than that given that I used to fly the occasional scenic for Freycinet Air a few years ago. :}

Have to agree with you that the scenery, especially the east side of Freycinet Peninsular is spectacular.:ok:

Miraz 29th Jun 2008 22:43

This should be fairly easy then...

Miraz... Freycinet Peninsula (looking East)...

Going for bonus points now...

Far Left: The Hazards with Mt Mayson in picture.

Next over: Hazards Beach and on the opposite side, Wineglass Bay.

Next to the right: Mt Graham and Mt Freycinet, then Cooks Beach...

Full marks?
