Renewals are completed within 12 calendar months of the last renewal/initial test. Each renewal involves demonstrating each type of approach to an ATO for the class of rating held. One approach must be flown in an aircraft, the others can be completed in a sim.

This is only applicable to the command instrument rating, renewals are not done for private IFR ratings.
